Need help deciphering Mothers Name

Post by sandyleanza »

Line 23 of the ship manifest lists Giuseppe Correnti's nearest relative in Italy as his mother, but I cannot make out the name. I am hoping someone on here can help me figure it out. In the word document, it is the name right above the crossed out line. My best guess is (?salio, ?salia) (Lucis, Lucio, Lucia)?

Thank you in advance for any help on this.

Italia (given name) Lucis (surname) is what I see. (I don't have access to the Ancestry Link just the doc.x)

That is better than what I had. I was not able to find anything related to that name however, so I think it may still be a little off.

That's better. Thank you.

What town was Giuseppe from?

Italia is both a Christian name and also a surname.

In the last column of the manifest, Giuseppe identifies place of birth as "Floridia"
That is probably Floridia, Siracusa, Sicily.

The surname ITALIA is found in Floridia :-)

Mother's name is probably Lucia Italia ...

Yes, Giuseppe was born in Floridia on 25 DEC 1889 or 12 DEC 1890. Father unknown. Manifest indicates he was visiting his cousin Pietro Correnti in Port Chester, NY. I have not been able to confirm Pietro yet.

Here is a later arrival for Pietro Correnti in 1914.
He is from Floridia, where he leaves his wife Marianna Vernali.
Pietro is age 25, and he has been in USA before.
His destination is to his brother Paolo Correnti, in Port Chester, NY
