hi -
i need some help locating an arrival record for my great-grandfather. i've found some...but i don't believe any of them are correct.
his name is carmelo demaria and he was born in molochio in 5-3-1884. he was the son of francesco demaria and caterina mustica.
in census records i have found from 1920 when he was living in new york, he indicated that he arrived in the united states in 1911. that said, i have heard stories that he originally came from italy to canada - not the US.
is it possible that you could help me locate records or a manifest?
thanks!
jenn
demaria arrival records...
Re: demaria arrival records...
On this NY arrival manifest from 1910, Carmelo's name is crossed off. which means either he did not sail, or he was listed elsewhere on the manifest.
He was from Molochio, and going to Pardoe, PA to join his brother Domenico.
He lists his wife, Angela, as the person in the country from which he came.
Name: Carmele Demaria

Birth Date: abt 1881

Birth Location Other: molschio

Looks like he sailed a couple of months later...
Name: Carmelo Demario
Arrival Date: 25 Jul 1910
Birth Date: abt 1884
Birth Location: Italy
Birth Location Other: malacchio
Age: 26
Gender: Male
Ethnicity/ Nationality: Italian (South) (Italian)
Port of Departure: Napoli
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Ship Name: Duca Di Genova
I would imagine that Carmelo Demaria made several trips back and forth... his family did not arrive until 1919.
Here is the NY arrival of Angela Pronesti, Francesca Demaria and Salvatore Demaria.
Sailing on the Duca D'Aosta in December 1919.
Their destination was Utica, NY, to husband/father Carmelo Demaria at 439-443 Bleecker St.
They list their place of birth as Radicena.
