GENUA, Carmine/CIPRIANO, ?Agnesa MARRIAGE

Post by dmurphy1940 »

For a translation if possible, Poor copy.
They may have been married in 1810 in Frigento.

Dec 17, 1810

Groom: Carmine Genua, adult age, 29, peasant, son of deceased spouses Giuseppe (Genua) and Margarita di Luca

It appears that the groom had had two previous marriages.

Deceased Carmina di Rienzo dico Felicera Giovanniello (this is a correction). The first wife was deceased Felicera Giovanniello. The second was deceased Carmina di Rienzo.

The bride: Agnesa Cipriano, age 20, daughter of Giuseppe (Cipriano) and deceased Carorina (?) Flammia (I need to further investigate the correct spelling of her first name.

Marriage publications on the 2nd and 9th of December.

You're very welcome, Dolores. I'm still not sure about Flammia's first name. I've enlarged the image, and tried to adjust it, but I can't get a clear image of the first name. It just doesn't look like Carmina or Carolina to me. I hope you see it in another record which may be clearer.

I would vote for Carmina, but Caterina sounds correct

Thank you, Livio and mmogno. Could it be Carmina, and is the correct spelling either CATARINA or CATERINA?

The modern spelling is Caterina. It used to be spelled both ways, depending on the personal preference of the person who wrote the record. In 1810 it could be either.

But FWIW it looks more like Carmina to me anyway.

Edit to Add:

There's an entry on "My Heritage Family Trees" which suggests her name was Catarina. (I don't always have a lot of confidence in the abridged translations I see on the site though.)

It says:

"Agnese Genua (born Cipriano), born 1789
Agnese Genua was born circa 1790, to Giuseppe Cipriano and Catarina Cipriano.
Agnese had 2 siblings: Marianna Cipriano and one other sibling.
Agnese married Carmine Genua on month day 1810, at age 20.

Personally, I've looked at the record several times since you posted it, and I keep swinging between Carmina and Catarina. It could be either. It really isn't very clear. You can only be sure with further research. :)

This may shed some light on the first name. May I have a translation of this marriage record.
