Re: Alias
Great spotting, Erudita. I hadn't seen this link to the record, only the images initially posted here. Do you think that the sign above “Pupadiu” in the first record is indicating that it is a misspelling? Maybe it relates to the line across the two “d's” in the second record that brogie62 pointed out. I had wondered about those two “d”s” as well. So we are back to doll/puppet which I initially thought. Interesting that Livio has linked us to the marionettes, because that was going to be another suggestion. (I kept thinking about the marionettes in the Sound of Music which we use to watch a lot, maybe that's when I heard the word from my parents?)erudita74 wrote: 31 Oct 2017, 04:08 Angela
Look at the word in the margin on the page on the right - the next record down. I think previously misspelled it. It should be Pupiddu`

Are you still having problems getting on the forum. I'm having problems posting. Hopefully this wil post.

I think this is a good time to remind posters that they should post url links to the page on which a record appears, whenever possible, and not just the individual record, so that we can look at other records in a collection, as these other records sometimes help us to decipher handwriting and understand the content of an individual record.
I don't know about what is above the word in the first record. I just know that seeing what was in the margin of the record below it is what clarified what it was for me. I just misspelled the word initially. (I'm currently having a slight issue with close reading since my recent cataract surgeries and can't get a script for new reading glasses until my final eye exam in late Nov. Ugh!). So please bear with me and my typos!
Have to run for now and get to zumba class.

BTW, I'm not currently having any issues posting on the forum, but I'm afraid to say so, as then the forum will go down for maintenance, and I will have issues again. Every time it does, I have problems accessing the forum and have to bother Edmondo about it.

To my eye it is Pupiddu in both records. Look closely at the first one.AngelaGrace56 wrote: 31 Oct 2017, 20:14Great spotting, Erudita. Re: Alias
An alias, also known as a vulgar surname (vulgo) and sometimes written as "detto" means the family had multiple surnames recognized in the community. There are many posts in this forum discussing it.
I myself have many family lines with aliases.

TIP: When asking for records from Italy, do NOT ask for an "estratto." ALWAYS ask for a "copia integrale." A photocopy of the original Act will contain more information
Re: Alias
Got to see the civil marriage record. Unfortunately no mention of Pupiddu. His profession was industrioso. No allegati or processetti available.

Re: Alias
If the records are available, try looking for his death record, or it may even be on his wife's death record. She had already died before the two weddings here.
