Tessitore/Colella Family

Looking for info on the Tessitore/Colella Family. My great-great grandparents are Giuseppe Tessitore and Pasqualina (or Pascalina) Colella. They had seven (7) kids born in Amorosi, Benevento, Campania:
Rosa Tessitore
Carmine and Francesco Tessitore (twins)
Nicholas Tessitore
Theresa Tessitore
Jennie Tessitore
Archimede Michele Tessitore (my great-grandfather)

Pasqualina came to the U.S. in 1903 with Archimede. Later Theresa and Jennie and Nicholas came over. Rosa stayed in Italy. Giuseppe the father also stayed in Italy. I heard the twins may have passed away when babies but not sure.

Any information would be great!

Here is the translation:
#32 - dated 7 May 1901 at 9:15 AM at the town office.
Before the official, Ernesto Giaquinto, mayor and official of the comune of Amorosi appeared Giuseppe Tessitore, age 50 years, farmer residing in Amorosi, to declare that at 11:50 AM on the 3rd of the abovesaid month, at the house in Via Telese, to Pasqualina Collela, farmer, his wife residing with him, was born a male child who was presented to the official and to whom was given the name Michele Archimede.
To the above and this act were present as witnesses Gennaro Marino, 53, tavernkeeper; Antonio Cesare, 30, landowner.
The official read the act to all the participants, and with him signed the witnesses to the record, but not the declarant because he did not know how to write.

NOTE: When you look at the ages in these records for the father, Giuseppe, you will see many variations For instance, at the birth of Michele Archimede in 1901, the record gives Giuseppe's age as 50. In the above 1888 birth act for Rosa, Giuseppe's age is listed as 48. This was not uncommon.

As to Giuseppe's correct date of birth... you can also use his marriage act. To marry, the spouses had to produce their birth acts. The age on the marriage act would be accurate.

Here is the birth act of Pasqualina Antonia Colella [wife of Giuseppe Tessitore] in 1868 in Amorosi. (#52)
Dated 16 November 1868 -
Father: Archimede Colella [son of deceased Pascale], 26, tailor, married
Mother: Teresa di Crosta [daughter of deceased Sebastiano], 25, housewife, wife of the declarant.
The female child was born on the 15th of said month at 9 AM at home and given the name PASQUALINA ANTONIA
Archimede Colella signed the act with the official

NOTE: There is a notation of marriage on 26 April 1888 (#8) to Giuseppe Tessitore
This marriage took place two days prior to the birth of Rosa.
I suspect that the age given for Giuseppe on Rosa's birth act is accurate since he had to provide his own birth act two days before for his marriage...

FYI - I have searched for Giuseppe Tessitore's birth act in Amorosi (years 1839-42 and 1847-1852), but did not find it. In fact, I did not see any Tessitore births in those years. The surname Tessitore is not found in Amorosi today which makes me think that Giuseppe was born in another Comune, probably nearby.

The marriage records for Amorosi for the year 1888 (cited in the birth act for Pasqualina) do not appear to be available. You will need to write to the Comune of Amorosi for the marriage. That document will also tell you where Giuseppe was born.

Just a note: Pasqualine Colella was a widow when she arrived in 1903.

Yes I noticed that too on the manifest married was crossed out and then widowed. It’s odd because I’ve been told my great-grandfather Archie when he started working, would send money over to his father to come over to the United States, but he never came. I’m wondering if widowed may be incorrect.

I found from their marriage act, Giuseppe was 48 when he was married and was born in Ruviano, Caserta, Campania. I have a question out to the comune if his actual date of birth is on there and if his parents are listed. In the meantime,I’m trying to find his birth act. Thanks!

I don’t have it. The comune only replied with this:

It is confirmed that the marriage certificate is registered under no. 8 - Part I - Year 1888.The wedding date is 26-04-1888. The spouses are TESSITORE Giuseppe, aged forty-eight, born in Ruviano, and COLELLA Pascalina Antonia, twenty years old, born in Amorosi.

I can ask if they have a copy and can send it.
