Searching for Birth Record Lucia Devenuto

Post by Hunterbld »

Trying to locate my Grandmothers Lucia Devenuto Birth Record to complete Jure Sanguinis.

This info taken from Lucias mother Caterina Devenuto Italian passport and US Census:

Lucia Devenuto, Born November 11, 1898. Born in Dalmatia, Italy

Mother: Caterina (Taraboscovitch) Devenuto born May 5, 1877 in Cittavecchia, Dalmatia. Her parents Giovanni and Lucia Taraboscovitch

Father: Vincenzo Devenuto born 1/17/1868 (Born: Giovinazzo, Bari, Puglia, Italy)?

The name Taraboscovitch has been butchered on different documents it is spelled Tarbuscovich
On Caterina’s Passport so not sure of correct spelling.

Can not make out what town Lucia was born in but her sister Maria was born 1896 in Cittavecchia, Spalato, Italy. Her Brother Luigi 1899 Verbagno, Dalmatia, Italy. Her Brother Giovanni 1900 Cittavecchia, Dalmatia, Italy. Lucia documents from US say born in Dalmatia Italy.

Lucia on ship” La Lorraine” Passenger list Sept. 13, 1902 arrived in NY from Depature port Havre. With Mother Caterina and Sister Maria. Last Residence Spalato. Meeting Father Vincenzo

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I think your location for Cittavecchia is not Italy but rather today in Croatia.

Here is Vincenzo birth records but I am having a hard time reading the script. Hopefully the board can help. (record 23)

Thank you so much ffusiak, Tessa78, and brogie62. I did not have either of these documents and I now know my Great, great, great, Grandparents names! Grazie mille! My challenge is trying to locate birth record for Lucia Devenuto. Daughter of Vincenzo Devenuto and Caterina Tarbuscovitch. Some how Vincenzo Devenuto made it across the Adriatic sea to the Island of Havre(which was Dalmatia Austria at the time) today called Hvar(Croatia). Met and married Caterina Tarbuscovitch had 4 children on the island Maria, LUCIA, Luigi, Giovanni. Vincenzo came over to US 9/6/1902. Caterina came over 2yrs later with children to join him. Caterinas passport says Kids were born on the Island in towns Cittavecchia, Verbagno, cant really make out town Lucia was born in But most of her US Documents say Dalmatia Austria. Any ideas on were or how to search for her birth record would be greatly appreciated.

the italian name for Hvar is not Havre but Lesina. Havre is the french port from which your family set the proverbial sail for America. Cittavecchia is, as stated, Stari Grad, while Verbagno is a village near Stari Grad called Vrbanj. both places have some church records uploaded on familysearch

stari grad https://www.familysearch.org/search/ima ... %3D2040054

vrbanj https://www.familysearch.org/search/ima ... %3D2040054

unfortunately for you, the online resources dont cover the years you are interested in. since, you say, lucia's sister maria was born in starigrad in 1896 and her brother luigi in vrbanj in 1899 she was probably born in one of the two.
you can try contacting the official Registrar's office on Hvar and see if you can buy her birth certificate. you can find their contact info on this page
https://mpu.gov.hr/ustrojstvo/uprava-za ... 2250/22250
just press ctrl+f and type hvar

also there now seem to be 2 separate profiles for vincenzo devenuto and catarina tarbuscovich (croatian: Tarbušković) on geni. the second one has a profile for your 'Lucia' but its set to private. you can ask the user to share it with you.

#2 https://www.geni.com/people/Vincenzo-Vi ... 9067541328

so you can get in touch with those users and fill in the gaps
