Hi Rob
As always, happy to help. I noticed that I typed Pandolfo and not Gandolfo for the Giovanna Grosso marriage record. I'm still stuck on Giovanna, but we now have a lot of proof concerning MariAnna or Marianna. Hopefully this will get all sorted out.

The baptism records from the other parish are quite a challenge concerning the correct years. It seems to me that the years are not in order, so I hope the years I gave you for the last two baptism records are correct. Anyway, more another day. I'm off to bed.

Death of Paola Cubisino-at age 2 on October 21, 1839-parents: Andrea Cubisino and Marianna Grosso-folio 630 #4712; so now maybe there were more than 2 with the first name Paola, unless the one born in 1838 was considered age 2 in her death record. I would also suggest you check for children prior to the marriage date you found. Still don't know what to do about Giovanna Grosso, and whether she and Marianna were one and the same person, and Giovanna was just one of her given names.

Hi Erudita,

I think I found the baptism record for Marianna, I'm finding it real hard to make out the names but could this be it?

The baptism appears to have taken place on Feb 7, 1808, so I believe the record is in the correct year range to be Marianna's, based on her age at death. BUT, there are some issues I have with it. For one thing, this infant was of unknown parents and doesn't even have a surname in the record. The two individuals with the Grosso surname are the infant's godparents-a brother and his sister. I think the brother's name looks more like Victor than Vincent to me but, admittedly, it's a hard read, and I could be wrong. His sister was Agata Grosso. So I'm at a loss as to what to tell you about this one. I really can't say for certain that it's the correct record, nor can I say for certain that it's not.

The only possible clue I can find that might indicate that this is the correct Marianna is in another record (5th one down from the top in the link below).

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1493344

There is an Agata Grosso, daughter of Magistro*(title) Vincenzo Grosso, serving as a godmother. So possibly this is the correct family and they did take Marianna in to raise as their own, and she did end up with this family's surname.

Getting back to Marianna, I found a baptism record for the same parents but cant read who was actually baptized. Also found the parents Marriage so its safe to say I'm on the right track with this now.

I'm stuck on some of the abbreviations in this record.

Dated Nov 26, 1809 (date of baptism; born yesterday, so on the 25th).

Infant: Giuseppe Salvatore Cosmo (Casabene) son of Don* (*title) Gaetano Maria(?) Casabene and Donna* Francesca di Geronimo, a married couple (there are two other abbreviations before the title Don, but I don't know what they are -the first looks like it could be the word Spirito, but again, I'm at a loss as to what that would mean. In front of the wife's title, there is another word which I can't decipher.

Godparents were Dottore(?) Don* Angelo Gianformaggio and Donna* Scolastica Gianformaggio

Not sure what record on this page you mean. The second record down is for a Marianna(no surname) born to unknown parents.
