Re: Trans of Domenic Prestianni and Pietro Failla
I know ppl on this site have more knowledge of Italian records. Some help would be great.
So I posted the record above of GG grandparents.
Here it says that they married in feb.of 1869 and her father was deceased, I have his death records from this site and it says that he died in May of that same yr..
#134, Castelbuono, 13 May 1868. Death record of Antonio Prestianni, age 55, peasant, born and residing in Castelbuono, son of the late Giuseppe and Domenica Biundo, husband of Concetta Di Garbo. He died in Castelbuono at 7 pm of the same day.
Light bulbs pop up in my head. I don't know whats wrong or right.
I'm trying to focus on this family first. Been spending time looking up Pietro and Domenica's
children's birth records. Their son Giuseppe ( my gg-grand-father), I have a records that was in my grandmother's files having him born 12.12.1882. Last night I found the birth having him born in 1880, I don't know the month or date because I can't read Italian.

I never know who's really the right person since everyone is named after one another and the names just kept carrying on.
How do you determine who's who and where they belong?

The marriage is in Feb 1869 but the bride's father died in May of 1868
The Giuseppe Failla birth record-Oct 29, 1880. No Giuseppe in the index for 1882.

Hmmm. I don't know why I thought 1869.
Yes- I didn't find a record in 1882 only 1880. I have a record from the City of NY saying that he was born in 1882.I'm guessing they just gave wrong information. Don't know why.

Re: Trans of Domenic Prestianni and Pietro Failla
Tracy,
I have many records from NYC which have incorrect info concerning my Italian ancestors. For example, on the death record of my one great great grandmother in Brooklyn, her daughter was the informant and gave her mother's date of birth as Dec 18, 1855. The record also has the age of 84 at death. My mom always told me that her great grandmother was well into her 90s, when she died. When I found her Sicilian birth record, I discovered that her date of birth was actually Dec 17, 1842. I went through all of the years of microfilmed records before and after the 1855 date, and no years were missing. I finally found the record in 1842. I was lucky though in that this ancestor was also a twin, and I found her twin's birth record immediately following hers, so this was additional confirmation me. There are many errors in U.S. records-even sometimes the individual's mother's surname (maiden name) is completely wrong-not even close in spelling. So, if you have no missing years from the Italian records, then you should have the correct record, even though the month and day don't match either. The information in U.S. records was based on what the declarant knew to be true, which may not have been what actually was.
