Can someone clarify this on the birth records
Can someone clarify this on the birth records
Hi
Just curious,on several of the birth records, there are no first and second names, just an N.N next to the surname.
Is this because the parents had not yet named the infants?
Thanks

Re: Can someone clarify this on the birth records
The text of the record is too blurry to read (maybe post a link instead), but the N.N. could refer to the child being born to unknown parents, or to the babies remaining un named as hey did not survive birth.
N.N. - nomen nescio [Latin], name unknown
N.N. - non nominatus / non nominata' [Latin], not named

I can't quite make it out (I'm very much still learning!) but on both of those N.N. records you linked to there is some verbiage about both children being females and both of them being dead (at birth ?) which is why they weren't 'presented' /given a name.
"che non ci presenta perché morta di questa" ---something
is happening right around this part of the record
"che non ci presenta perché morta di questa" ---something

Or perhaps.... born alive, but died before they could be presented to the officials for the declaration of the birth. Yes, there are many cases like this in the records.Rhonda wrote: 28 Feb 2019, 20:06 Makes perfect sense with the script you have quoted,so stillborns then.

Another good point yes.

Rhonda
Just to add to this discussion, the female infant in this record, was not born to unknown parents. She was born to the declarant, who was a 28 year old cook living in Savona, but from Reggio D'Emilia, from his illegitimate union with a young person not named (possibly a teenager or adolescent). The infant was dead, as has already been pointed out, and was not given a name.

Hi Rhonda
You're very welcome. Any luck in locating any other related records? I gather not, since you haven't been on the forum in a while.
