Below is the publication regarding the marriage of Vincenzo Di Domenico and Carmela Battista in 1909 in Chiaromonte, residence of bride
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1947686
and publication in Castronuovo di Sant'Andrea, residence of the groom
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1947686
I cannot locate a marriage in either commune or a death in that year. The Chiaromonte records appears to be crossed out. The Castronuovo di Sant'Andrea record has two notations written on the bottom of the page both dated 1909.
Do either documents explain why I cannot find the marriage?
Thank you,
Karen

It appears that in Jan of 1910 he married someone else

His marriage publications in Dec of 1909

Thank you Erudita,
This is the first time I came across a marriage publication without an actual marriage or a death. Curious, what to the two 1909 dates at the bottom of the second publication refer to?

These notations have no bearing on your record or any info in it. They are just administrative notations.
These records are copies of the town's records held at the tribunal court (province level). The first notation reads "verified for the 1st quadrimester (i.e., for the first four months of the year) and is dated May 7, 1909. The procurator was the magistrate at the tribunal level, so I believe it's his initials or signature which appears below this statement. He has verified all of the records in Part II of the year 1909 for the months starting with the beg of Jan 1909 through the end of April of 1909. He verifies this at the beginning of the 5th month, which is May, so the statement appears on the last record before May 1st in Part II, which just happens to be your record, which is also the only record in Part II. If you look at the records in Part I of the year 1909, you will see the same statement appearing on the last record in that section which is dated before May.
The second annotation reads "verified negatively(?) the second quadrimester and is dated Sept 12, 1909." Since your record is the only record before Sept 1st in Part II of the records for 1909, this would account for the notation concerning verification in the second quadrimester of the year also appearing on your record.
The beginning of Jan through end of April would constitute the first quadrimester, and the notation would be added the beg of the 5th month, or the month of May.
The beginning of May through the end of Aug would constitute the second quadrimester, and the notation would be added the beginning of the 7th month, or the month of Sept.
The beginning of September through the end of December would constitute the third quadrimester, so the notation would be added the beginning of the first month of the following year or, for the 1909 records, the beginning of Jan in 1910.
Hope this hasn't completely confused you. These are just not annotations that you need to be concerned with.

Erudita,
Thank you for your thorough explanation of the notation so I will know what it means when seeing it again.

Re: Marriage of Vincenzo Di Domenico and Carmela Battista
You're very welcome, Karen. If you're ever not certain though, it is always best to ask, as often annotations do relate to one's ancestral record, and you want to be sure that you're not missing any important info related to your family.
