Translation of Unreadable Piazza Baptism

Post by mjr0627 »

Seeking help with translation of Baptism Record of unknown Piazza

I think this is a child of Antonino and Joanna (Giovanna Tamburello) Piazza born 18 May 1742
I cannot translate the name I have a Petrus Piazza who later gets married in 23 Sept 1770 and an trying to find his birth.

From the marriage record attached, can you confirm that the mother of this child is written as Joanna Salvaggio and then Tamburello written above it. Was she married twice?

The mother's surname is not given in the baptism record. It just reads that the parents were Antonino and Giovanna di Piazza. The baptism record is dated in March, not May, and the birth took place on the 17th, (yesterday) at 9 P.M. Godparents were Francesco and Francesca Guarino, a married couple of this parish. I can't find the name Poluca anywhere though, but see it is in the index beginning with the letter P. This is a baptism record for a female infant.

Yes, in the marriage record for Paolo, Giovanna's surname is written as Salvagio with Tamborello written above it.

Thanks Erudita. So in the index of the book, and the baptism document and the margin of the baptism, The name all looks the same. I just couldn't make it out very well. Do you really see it as Poluca Josepha also? Definitely a female, but not sure what the translation would be from Latin Poluca to Italian?

I see the middle name Josepha now, so definitely a female.
The documents all look the same.. Is it really poluca? or something like patricia? Polina

This one has me stumped..

The second name is definitely Josepha/Giuseppa. I can't find Poluca as a name. I think the name is Palma. It seems clear in the record.

I'm actually glad you had posted the index, as I noticed this first name on the other page. Hopefully you'll find her in another record to definitely confirm the first name, but at least we do know the name existed in the town.
