Hi, I'm new to Italian civil records, but I was able to find a marriage record that I know are my ancestors.
I have included both the index as well as the marriage record with the hope that it may help identify the names of the parents of both the bride and groom.
Let me first cover what I think I have figured out.
1) Bride - Ninfa Maggio Age 18 (maria is the name noted on index)
2) Groom-Giuseppe Martino Age (about 20) born in Santa Ninfa
3) Vincenzo Martino -Grooms father
Any information you could translate regarding the bride and grooms parents would be greatly appreciated.

Groom's parents: Vincenzo Di Martino, age 70 and Nicolina Pisciotta, age 60 (there is a di in front of Martino in the record)
Bride's parents: GiovannBattista Maggio, deceased, and Maria Navarro, age 50

Re: Marriage Record Translation Giuseppe Martino / Ninfa Maggio
Thank you very much for your help Erudita!
I was looking at the groom and fathers (Vincenzo) occupations and both were shown as "borgese" (I think I am reading correctly) Do you or anyone else knows what that was?
If I could ask just a general question on these marriage records, if they say a name of a town for the parents... Is that where they were born, or just where they are currently living at the time of the marriage?
Thank you again for your help- Carl

You're very welcome, Carl.
About borgese-this is often translated as Middle Class, but further research led me to the following info:
. borgese were middle peasants. They owned or leased, on a long term basis, plots of land that were one, two, or three hectares* in size. They also possessed substantial houses and work animals........ "
According to Prof Rudolph Bell in his book, Fate, Honor, Family and Village, a borgese was a small landowner
As to the parents living in the town at the time of this marriage-that does not necessarily mean they were born there.

Thank you again Erudita for the information on their occupation and for clarifying for me about the parents residences.
It looks like I won't be able to go much further back on this line unless church records are released online for Santa Ninfa.
Really appreciate your help - Carl

At the moment, the only other records for the town, available for viewing only at a family history center, are listed at the two links below. No early civil death records though. The riveli are tax census records and are very difficult to decipher. Even with the earliest info you can get from the civil records, it is often difficult to establish a relationship between those very early census records and the related individuals in the earliest civil records you can access. I have not seen any church records online for any of the towns in Trapani Province.
You need to register with a username and password to view the info in the links below-it's free-at this website, if you haven't already done so.

Thank you again! Luckily I have good access to a local family history center, so I will take a look at the census tax records when time allows.
