Post by demari18 »

Greetings! I have been trying to find if there is a library in Marzano Appio and only come up a library in Calvi. Is there a library in Marzano Appio? Oral family history related an ancestor surname Nardelli wrote a book. I thought if there is a library in Marzano Appio the book might be there. Thank you for your help! DeMari

I made a quick search on internet and it seems there is not a library in Marzano Appio, but I'll look again also in the surrounding comuni.
Can you post the name of the author, approx. year of publication, title or subject if you know, perhaps there are info on internet.

Thank you! That is what I thought from my searching - no library. Unfortunately, all we know is that someone in the Nardelli family wrote a book of prophecy. In my searching of records for Marzano Appio I have only found 2 names for the Nardelli ancestors. Angelo Nardelli (1833-?) and his father Felice Nardelli (1799-?) Felice was showed to be a possidente - landowner with an address on Strada Campopiano in the Grottola section of Marzano Appio. I know that my next step will have to be to write to the church in Marzano Appio which I know to be San Sebastiano and then just wait for records from the 1700s.
Thank you so much for trying to help me, DeMari

Yes even I searched for the library in Marzano Appio and I didn't find one. One of my friend lives in Italy let me ask with him also. He might be knowing this properly becuase he is a bookwarm :) You can see how Nardelli families moved over time by selecting different census years. The Nardelli family name was found in the USA, Canada, and Scotland between 1871 and 1920. You have given some more details that is quite interesting. Thanks for sharing..

While there doesn't appear to be a library in Marzano Appio, there is one in the nearby town of Presenzano. You might try contacting the library there:

Thank you erudita! I certainly will email them. I feel there is always some truth in an oral family history and would love to find the book for my husband.

I have another question for you and need your opinion. I found a birth record for Antonio D'Orsi who was born in Raviscanina in 1884. On his US marriage record Angelo D'Orsi was listed as the father and Concetta Catherina Nassa as his mother. On the italian birth record those 2 names were also listed as the parents. I tried to go back to in time to find the marriage record for Angelo and Concetta and in 1882 in Raviscanina I found a marriage record. Concetta's name was on the record but the groom was Giocomantonio not Angelo. Do you think this is the marriage record for Antonio's parents? Thank you for any help you can offer me. DeMari

Also, any idea why there is a large X under Antonio's name on the birth record?

Here's the 1855 birth record in the town of Letino, which is Giacomantonio's place of birth in the marriage record. His given name was Giacomo Angelantonio Orsi born on July 30, 1855. His father, Pietro, age 29; his mother, Maddalena Ferro.

Thank you so very much so this now all fits together. I can see that he must have taken to using Angelo for his name. I really appreciate all your help! I love being able to go back further and further. My mother started doing genealogy when she just wrote letters to relatives and then to places that held records and waited patiently to hear back. She would have loved using the internet! Again thank you so much! DeMari

My ancestors are from Marzano Appio, and ironically many of them moved to Raviscanina where they live now. I recall you posting in the Marzano Appio FB group? I actually have an old book about Marzano that a friend gave me, although it’s unfortunately a a scanned version with collection of pdf’s, I’ll check again who the author is but I’m pretty certain it’s not Nardelli. Also, this might be helpful to your cause, for some years now I’ve been friends on FB with “Biblioteca Marzano Appio”, here’s their profile link...

Good luck,

Thank you Mark! I am on a quest and hope that some day I will find this mysterious book. Every little bit helps! I would love to know about the book you have. I am interested in learning about life in Marzano Appio at the end of the 1800 when my husband's grandmother left Marzano Appio.

Again thank you, DeMari
