Middle right, marraige between Giuseppe and Castrenza Vitali in Monreale, Sicily. I believe the surname is Zingone but can't seem to find it anywhere (i.e. Castrenza's baptism or her parents' marriage). Is anyone able to make out what town the bride and her family are from? (where it says cittia ed auuto???) Thanks!

Re: Sicilian church record town of origin
Bride: It says "of this above city" meaning Monreale
Re: Sicilian church record town of origin
Once again thank you for your help. However I wasn’t able to find the surname “Zingone” for the bride, any siblings, or her parents in the Monreale records. I guess I will look harder or possibly the surname I have is incorrect.

In the index above, I see a Castrenza Rosa Zinguni (this is what the spelling looks like to me in the index). Jan 22, 1736
There's another child born to this same couple in 1741-Vincenza Giuseppa Zingone-10/14/1741
Castrenza below-bottom left

Re: Sicilian church record town of origin
According to the baptism record of Castrenza Rosa Giacoma in 1736, her parents were a married couple of Palermo. I believe it also says that they were living in Monreale, but someone else can verify this. I don't see their marriage record in Monreale. The sister Vincenza Giuseppa Castrenza Gaetana was born on Oct 13, 1741, even though the record is dated the 14th. Here's a link to the sister's record:

Re: Sicilian church record town of origin
I tried to find the death records of Bartolomeo and Paolina in Monreale but no luck. I was hoping the death records might give their places of birth and a clue to the place of their marriage.
I did find a marriage of a son of theirs named Giovanni (surname spelled as Zingone). He married a Rosa Termine on May 2, 1762. Unfortunately, the record just says his parents were of Monte (Monreale).

Re: Sicilian church record town of origin
That certainly is odd. I wonder where Giovanni’s baptism is then? Re: Sicilian church record town of origin
Unfortunately, Giovanni's marriage record does not give his place of birth. I would assume he was born and baptized in another town in the province, but the church records for the other province towns appear to be lacking indices, so I can't really help you further with this research. Sorry.

I gotcha. I would assume it took place in his parent’s marriage town, or at least close to it. Your help is greatly appreciated Erudita!erudita74 wrote: 08 May 2021, 14:41 Unfortunately, Giovanni's marriage record does not give his place of birth. Polina Zinguno, wife of deceased Bartolomeo Zinguno. Daughter of deceased Salvadore and Sebastiana Niscozia (sp?) of Monte. I believe this surname should be either Nicosia or Nicocia. I see it spelled both ways in the indices. The parents were of Monte (Monreale). Polina was about age 80 at death. She died on April 1, 1783. So, her birth would have been about 1703, if her age at death is somewhat accurate, but I haven't located her baptism record, at least not yet. Her burial was in the Cemetery of the Poor.

Giovanni Zanghino, son of deceased Bartolomeo and Paolina Zanghino of Monreale, age 50, buried in the church of Sant’Antonio Abate. Date Sept 22, 1793, so birth abt 1743. His place of birth not given in the record.

Re: Sicilian church record town of origin
Thanks again erudita. I tried searching for her baptism as well but nothing as of yet. Also nothing regarding Salvatore and Sebastiana's marriage. It's also interesting that The "Zingone" surname in every record is spelled differently.erudita74 wrote: 12 May 2021, 22:15 https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=2046915
