Caccamo, Sicily: Baratta and also Alonge line.

Post by perhaps »

This story is piecemeal, and one must be careful since the names as used in other lines so frequently. so, the pedigree I am assisting with has Giuseppe Baratta b. 22 mar 1896 in Caccamo, Cicilia and to our knowlege only had a brother (a barber, who came to USA then returned.)named Luigi, born about 1889 per the Ellis Island record of 1920.
Listed in Ellis Island record for these brothers as their father was 'Francesco Baratta. Specifics unknown. HOWEVER! a DNA match was made slightly to a person who can trace to Salvatore who was born 1863. we don't know how far back the common ancestor was. This Salvatore was in Philadelphia in 1935 per someone on myheritage.com
Ok, so now going on with what the DNA tested person remembers: he said way back in time some Norwegian traveling through married an Italian lady and is somehow in the mix of the Baratta line.
Now for the direct line of the DNA testee (frank barattaborn1929) his father Giuseppe married in 1928 in New York City to Josephine/Giuseppina Alonge . she was born 1901 there in New York. they lived in the Bronx. Her parents were Giorgio and Giusepina Alonge. anyone know Caccamo families? thanks. I know so little.

I know this isn't about your Giuseppe, but it's so unusual I had to show it; it's part of a poem - "Da Poleetica Boss" -
15MAR1912_Baratta_politician.jpg
from a Santa Fe newspaper dated March 15, 1912. It pokes fun at a politician named Giuseppe Baratta.

You have Giuseppe Baratta's birth act?

#105 in 1896 in Caccamo.
Birth on 21 March
Father: Francesco Baratta, son of deceased Filippo
Mother: Maria Barone, daughter of deceased Luigi
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1947613

An older brother Antonino born 1893 February #36
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1947613

Another son born in 1889 - Luigi
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1947613

Marriage of Francesco Baratta and Maria Barone in May 1890 (#10)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1947613

In the marriage act they recognize two sons born to them before the marriage...the first named Filippo, born 10 September 1883 (#192); and the second, Luigi, born 16 March 1889, (#79).

Birth Act of their son Filippo Baratta in 1883 (#192)

Giorgio Alongi (spelled with an "i") and his wife also appear to be from Caccamo.

A Giorgio Alonge is listed as the father in a death index for Jennie Alonge on Tilden Ave Bronx, NY in 1921. The mother is listed as Josephine (Giuseppa) Cordone.

I searched for children born to this couple in Caccamo and located a Concetta Alongi born to Giorgio Alongi and Giuseppa Cordone in 1892 (#167)

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1947613

And a son Giovanni born in 1898 (#14)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1947613

And an earlier Giovanni born in 1895 (#117).
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1947613

In the above records, Giorgio's father is listed as deceased Vincenzo; and Giuseppa's father is Castrenzo.

EDIT TO ADD...

Marriage of Giorgio Alongi and Giuseppa Cordone in 1887 (#25)
