Hi everyone,
I'm still digging into some old records. this time with the marriage between Luigi Trovato and Maria Santoro (middle-right page):
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... at=1006970
I'm trying to identify the basic info to identify names, dates, parents, etc.
What I have till now is:
- Date: 15-sep-1811
- Groom: Luigi Trovato. On the index of this year (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... at=1006970) it says that this record is for "Aloysius", can someone confirm that the record belongs to that name?). My confusion here is because: a) I can't identify Aloysius on the record, and b) there's an "Antonino Trovato" also on the record.
- Bride: Maria Santoro
- Groom's parents: Domenico Trovato and ???
- Bride's parents: Mariano Santoro and Anna di Franca? (the mother's name could also be Giovanna)
For the bride parents, I have the baptism record also, where I think the mother's name is "Giovanna"? (third record on the left page: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... f=G84Y-DJM)
Is there any other info (ages?) that could be useful on those records?
thanks!
Fede
Church marriage: Luigi Trovato and Maria Santoro
Re: Church marriage: Luigi Trovato and Maria Santoro
It sounds like this might not be the record you're looking for. The groom is Aloysius Trovato; his mother is Rosa. There's no Luigi here. Antonio Trovato is the declarant, not the groom. FYI Aloysius is the last word on the sixth line. You can see the large capital A and then the "l" runs into the A, making it look almost like an M.
I agree bride's mother is Anna and bride's father's surname is di Franca.
There are no ages listed. Many of the church records don't list ages (except for the death record).

Re: Church marriage: Luigi Trovato and Maria Santoro
D. Antonino Trovato is the priest before whom the couple was appearing to be married. The abbreviation D stands for the word Don, which is a honorific title given to priests, nobles, etc
The name Aloysius is the Latin equivalent of the Italian Luigi or the English name Louis. You do have the correct record.

Whoops. Reading Latin by itself doesn't give you historical knowledge of the name equivalents. I'm glad to be corrected.

Thanks erudita74 and salve!
I agree that's difficult sometimes to get the names right between the handwritte + latin equivalents
So, it seems the record is the right one!
Just to confirm:
- Date: 15-sep-1811
- Groom: Luigi Trovato
- Bride: Maria Santoro
- Groom's parents: Domenico Trovato and Rosa Trovato
- Bride's parents: Mariano Santoro and Anna di Franca
thanks as always!

Good effort on your part. These Latin church records are very difficult-especially with so many abbreviations and no set standard for format and content.salve wrote: 20 Sep 2021, 00:16 Whoops. Appears to be correct. The other dates in the record were for the banns of marriage which resulted in no impediments to the upcoming marriage. Those were on Aug 15th, 18th, and 24th.
