Re: Marriage Translation_1870
Out of curiosity, I checked the Patron Saint of Marineo, and it is, in fact, St Ciro (Cyril), thereby the preponderance of Ciro/Cira in the parent's names...

Ciro and Cirillo are two different Saints!MarcuccioV wrote: 28 Oct 2021, 20:04 Out of curiosity, I checked the Patron Saint of Marineo, and it is, in fact, St Ciro (Cyril), thereby the preponderance of Ciro/Cira in the parent's names...
I don't know if there's an equivalent for Ciro in English, so maybe the Italians who were named Ciro, took on Cyril when they moved to America.

Re: Marriage Translation_1870
Pippo, you and Angela are no doubt correct. In any case, San Ciro IS the patron of Marineo.PippoM wrote: 29 Oct 2021, 08:46Ciro and Cirillo are two different Saints!MarcuccioV wrote: 28 Oct 2021, 20:04 Out of curiosity, I checked the Patron Saint of Marineo, and it is, in fact, St Ciro (Cyril), thereby the preponderance of Ciro/Cira in the parent's names...

Nice News---------we had some Ciro's in our family who came to America, and later on in their middle to later age used the name Jerry.

That must be because in Naples people often say "Giro" rather than "Ciro" (in some old civil records I've found "Giro" as a personal name), and "GI" sounds like "J"
