Quattrocchi, Barca
Quattrocchi, Barca
My husband's Great Aunt, Gaetana Chiavone, married Salvatore Quattrocchi 13 June 1910 in Manhattan, New York.
The marriage certificate gives his name as Zuattrocchi. They were both born in Palermo, Sicily, arriving U .S. in 1909. I then find a birth notice for a daughter, Maria Santina, 24 July 1911, New York City but the father is noted as Angelo Barca. So Salvatore must have died quite soon after the marriage but I have not found his death info or her marriage to Angelo. I have Angelo's info from his Death Certificate, born 8 June 1891. The parent info listed is actually his wife's parents. In summary, would like to know when Salvatore died, the parents of Angelo Barca and his birth info. Thank you for any help.

Of possible minor use?
Image of the 1910 marriage certificate, correctly indexed as Quattrocchi by NYC.
Includes addresses, names of witnesses, sometimes these are useful clues

Salvatore's parents' names are identified above as Cataldo Quattrocchi and Domenica Bevacqua in the birth act I posted, AND in the marriage act posted by parkergambino.gallohjc wrote: 02 Aug 2022, 16:29 RLW254 and Parker - thank you so much for this info. On the Naturalization record I posted above for Angelo Barca -(wife Anna) - you will see he lists his children beginning with Mary (Maria) born 24 July 1910 in New York City. I believe this is the Maria you identify as born to Gaetana. My husband's Great Aunt, Gaetana Chiavone, married Salvatore Quattrocchi 13 June 1910 in Manhattan, New York.

At the time of this birth Gaetana would have been married with Salvatore Quattrocchi for about 1 month.
When you say you found "a birth notice for a daughter, Maria Santina" are you talking about a birth record? or some other source? Can you post it?
EDIT TO ADD:
Here is a death notice for Gaetana (Anna) Barca (nee Chiavone) in Philadelphia on 27 December 1965.
So the "ANNA" in the naturalization record is Gaetana, and the Mary is Maria, her daughter.

Re: Quattrocchi, Barca
Tessa, birth info for Maria was from Ancestry, U.S. Social Security Applications and Claims Index, 1936-2007. Born 24 July 1911, New York City. Father Angelo Barca, Mother Gaetana Chiavone. So, Gaetana married Salvatore Quattrocchi 13 June 1910, Maria born 24 July 1911. When did Salvatore die and when did Angelo and Gaetana marry?

Thank you for the information.
The logical assumption would be that Salvatore died.
There are also the possibilities that he left her, or maybe traveled back to Italy and did not return, or she left him. If that were the case, she might not have been able to secure another marriage license in NYC, as she was still considered married. I have seen this before where a couple could not be "officially" married, but chose to be a married couple.
I have searched extensively (as I am sure other volunteers here at the forum have done also) for the possible death act of Salvatore (none found in NYC or beyond as yet), and a possible marriage for Gaetana and Angelo, without success. Their second child, according to Angelo's naturalization record, was born in Washington. Maybe they were married there.

Re: Quattrocchi, Barca
On a hunch, I checked all of the death registers in the town of Gangi into the 1940s, but found no evidence of Salvatore dying there. Not sure if I missed any of the years though. I just started looking through the marriage indices for there, starting in 1911, and found a 1913 marriage for him in Gangi to a Maria Trombetta. p. 82 of 110, Oct 18, 1913. He was age 25 and is listed as single or never before married.

In the handwritten section at the bottom, it says he spent time in NY from 1908 to 1910, during which, I believe it says, he did not enter into any marital commitment (did not contract any marriage). Hopefully one of the native Italian volunteers on the forum will correct me if I've interpreted the Italian incorrectly.

Re: Quattrocchi, Barca
Tessa and Erudita, thank you so much for your determined efforts. I’m inclined to agree with all your results and will remove Salvatore from the Gallo/Chiavone tree. Angelo and Gaetana were together/married until his death in 1946 in Philadelphia, PA. I will keep the info on Salvatore, up to his Gangi marriage in 1913.
Genealogists at Italian Genealogy continue to amaze me, going above and beyond what us amateurs request. At times you’re given little information. No matter, you always manage to come through and help to “complete” our research. I extend my hope for a long, continuing relationship with IG and those seeking their Italian ancestors. Than you and God Bless to all.

Hi Helen
Happy to have given you some kind of closure on the subject of Salvatore. He probably also fathered children in Gangi with Maria Trombetta, but I don't think you currently care about that possibility and won't be pursuing that kind of research.
