finding death record for a woman when you don't know maiden name
finding death record for a woman when you don't know maiden name
Hi
A family member's second wife died in Grottaminarda in 1848 but I don't know her first or maiden name. Since records list the deceased women by their maiden name and the index has father, not spouse, how else can I find her name? Is this a dead end or is their something I can do. other than looking at 92 pages of documents.

You will have to scan the death acts of that year for that commune (if you believe that info is correct). In most communes the spouse's name (whether living or deceased) should be included in the record. I know of no shortcuts if her name is not on any records of your relative...carolc wrote: 22 Jul 2022, 22:53 Hi

Do you not have her husband's death record?
How do you know she died in 1848?
Maybe we can help. Can you tell us more - some names and dates would be helpful. Ta.

You also might try to find the marriage act.

Hi
AngelaGrace you will remember this. the marriage record of Domenico Migliarese indicates he died on his deathbed. The record also says he was widowed since 1848 so I thought I would try and find his second spouse. Hopefully this link works and takes you back to that original thread.

Can you look for some child's marriage, if any?

The children I found are all with his first wife and their marriage records don't name a step mother, only their birth mother. Guess I will just go through each of the 90+ records and see if I can find her.

WOW, Angela how in the world did you find this. Thank you so much for taking the time to locate this. I can't get over how wonderful you and all these researchers are on this site. No way, I could have accomplished all of this on my own.
THANK YOU

Angela I took at look at 1846 (the yr after his first wife died) and bam! there's his marriage record to Carmela. I bet she had at least one child before she died and that could be why the 3rd marriage....too many babies to take care of!
Re: finding death record for a woman when you don't know maiden name
And there it is. In March of 1847, they had a little girl, Maria Luigia Filomena, who would lose her mother in one year. So much sadness.
Can you take a look and see if there is something to note in that section after - presentato una bambina. It looks like they are saying that Carmela is his legitimate wife but is there something more I should take from this doc?

Then after the age of 32 which mmogno has noted, in case you were wondering Carol, it just says "living with him, and (born) from him, the declarant, age as above (i.e. 36), profession as above (i.e. salasiatore? Salt Maker?), living as above (i.e. Strada Regia?, Grottaminarda.)
Also, just confirming for you the following:
The baby girl was born on 21 March 1847, at 6 pm in the house in which her parents lived, was presened to the official given the name Maria Luigia Filomena. Date of Registration was the same day in Grottaminarda.
BTW: Nice find Carol![]()
