I did not see the Giovanni when I found it in the index, so its possible this could be a sibling with Battista as a middle name or perhaps Battista went by his middle name.
I haven't got into records this old much yet...What would be the best type of record to confirm? Would the church marriage record show the given name and parents names?

You must not think of Battista as a "middle name" as in American use.
All the names listed in a civil record are considered as a unique first name.
Moreover, "Giovanni Battista" (like "Franesco Saverio" or "Francesco Paolo") is held to be a specific name, as it is referred to a particular Saint, to mark the difference to others who go by the same name.
However, yes, the church marriage might help
