If you can't read it, is there a website that has transcribed the record?

Re: John Boland
I believe you are off by one row for the person he is going to join.
Here is a good copy to help you.
It says he is going to join Frank Booth? 452 Glenworth? St New York (the 452 seems overwritten by 412)
(you will note that the "sister Catherine" below applies to the next two individuals on Lines 16/17 who are brothers)
Hope this helps
Stephen

Re: John Boland
The address looks like 232 East 76th Street in Manhattan.
How do I find out who lived there c.1903?

Re: John Boland
X meaning detained.
Released to his sister Bridget. See #103
The address he originally gave of 2328 78th St NYC may have been wrong
See line 103 attached which refers to the same John Boland A 20

Thanks. That helps. He had a sister Bridget who arrived in 1900.
I can't open the link in Ancestry. Can you save it as a pdf or jpg?

Yes. My mistake.
Are detentions listed with shop manifests or in separate files?

Re: John Boland
They are typically at the end of the same reel that has the manifest. Sometimes they are indexed more accurately and you come across that listing first. Then you can use the Page/Line reference to go backwards into the manifest to find the main listing.

Re: John Boland
In most cases, after you have found the correct immigration information elsewhere, it's a good idea to re-enter it as a search at the FamilySearch site, which provides superior image quality; it really does make a difference in legibility. Also, FS provides a summary where, for example, it tells you that he was going to "Mrs. Dach", the interpretation of handwriting that is shown more clearly to be illegible!

The Image Index tab at the bottom can also be helpful, at least to the extent that the indexing itself is accurate. In this case, it is not, as he had been indexed as John Roland, which made him hard to find by typical search strategies.
Here are the FS links
Regular manifest page, going to his sister at 232 E (East) 76 St.

Detained passengers manifest list, going to his sister Bridget at 1313 3rd Avenue, which is actually on the same block as the previous address.
