Confusing ancestor
Confusing ancestor
My 6x great grandfather, Pompeo di Gennaro, married in the hamlet of Bozza in Montefino in 1820. His marriage record states that his father, Gennaro, was no longer living at the time of the marriage but his mother, Mattia di Michele was alive and living in the nearby hamlet of Montesecco. In 1834, his sister got married in Bozza but, instead of Maria di Michele it states that her name is Maria di Giandomenico living "in tenimento di Cellino." Pompeo passed away in 1855 in his home town of Poggio delle Rose in Cermignano and it says that his mother had passed at the time of his death but the only thing written about his mother was her first name and no other information was given. I'm not able to find any more marriage records for more of her children to see if I could get anymore information about her but wasn't able to find anything. I also couldn't find anything between the years 1834 and 1855 in the towns of Cermignano, Montefino, Atri, Cellino Attanasio and other places. Is it possible that she died a beggar and doesn't have a death record? Thank you!
Re: Confusing ancestor
Perhaps the "di Michele" referred to her father.
See this publication/notification of Pompeo's marriage.
In the record his father is identified as "Gennaro di Domenicantonio" and his mother as "Maria di Michele"

Maybe "di Giandomenico" was her surname???
I have searched for marriages of other children of Gennaro and Maria/Mattia with no success as yet.
Can you post the marriage of their daughter in 1834?

Here is her daughter's marriage record in 1834 to a man named Giuseppe de Chiaro. He was a tailor from Chieti.

Re: Confusing ancestor
I believe Tessa is correct. Based on the marriage act above, it appears her name is Mattia Di Giandomenico. That could easily make her the daughter of a Michele Di Giandomenico. "Di Giandomenico" is a common surname in the vicinity of Bozza. See link below:
