Trying to find Carlo Antonio Mazzuca death record

Post by Mattrock »

Hello all,

I am trying to locate a death record for my fourth-great-grandfather, Carlo Antonio Mazzuca. A marriage record for my third-great-grandfather Salvatore Mazzuca that dates to September 1843 in Badolato, Catanzaro, appears to indicate he died (has the word fu) prior, and that he lived "in vita" in Dipignano, Cosenza (where Salvatore was born in 1814). His wife was named Rosa Groe and appeared to outlive him. I looked on numerous death indices for Dipignano between those years but could not find a death record. Perhaps I missed the name somehow? If anyone could be of help that would be very much appreciated!

Thanks!

According to the marriage act for Salvatore Mazzuca, among the documents provided for the marriage were the death acts of the father and grandfather of the groom. These documents were kept in the Processetti or Allegati folders. They are usually not indexed and sometimes not filmed in order, but they hold a treasure trove of information. Your 4xggf death act, as well as your 5xggf :) will be in the Processetti.

The Processetti for 1843 in Dipignano is available but only while viewing online at an LDS Family History Center or affliliated Library.
Here is the film info:

Looking again at the marriage of Salvatore Mazzuca, I see that the marriage took place in Badolato, the hometown of the bride. The Processetti would be kept in that comune, not in Dipignano.
This would be the Bardolato film (only viewed at FHC) that holds the Processetti for 1843.

Meanwhile, I will continue to search for the death of Carlantonio Mazzuca.

Thank you so much for the info! I'll be able to see the processetti next month hopefully. It's very weird though that his name doesn't seem to come up in any of the Dipignano death indices. Maybe I'll have to look at Badolato's deaths. I looked in some of Dipignano's diversi for deaths outside of the town but his name wasn't in the ones I saw either.

I agree. I searched the Dipignano deaths and diversi; as well as the deaths in Badolato.
I think your best option for now is the processetti.

Good luck.

I just looked through the processetti for Badolato on an affiliate library computer. Strangely, the documents for this marriage are not in that collection. There are documents for the marriages before and after Salvatore Mazzuca and Vittoria Saraco's but not theirs. I'm really confused as to why that is the case! Did they somehow not get scanned or something?
