Hi all,
Is it possible for two siblings to have the exact name? I was under the impression it wasnt permitted according to Italian law however I believe I have run across such an instance in my family tree...
In my family tree I have a Gisueppe Ballone married to a Rosa (Lo) Conti in Casteltermini. The marriage was clandestine so therefore no church record. They had a daughter named Vincenza, born c.1875 married to a Pietro Saporito (marriage c.1899). According to the records they had another daughter named Vincenza born c.1881 and married to a Vincenzo Florio (marriage c.1897). Both Vincenza`s were alive at the same time.
I have checked the church records on registriparrocchiali Agrigento online portal for Casteltermini. I found the church records of both Vincenza`s births and I found the marriage certificate (on registriparrocchiali) of both Vincenza`s to their husbands where Giuseppe and Rosa are clearly stated as parents and additionally although Giuseppe and Rosa had a clandestine marriage, their marriage is still noted in the marriage "1800 - 1900 indices" for Casteltermini.
I triple checked and there is only 1 couple with the name Giuseppe Ballone and Rosa Conti in Casteltermini according to the Indices on registriparrocchiali between the years 1800 - 1900. So this appears to eradicate the possibility of another couple with the same name being present in the town.
From all my research it appears Giuseppe and Rosa named their two daughters Vincenza.
Has anyone run across such an instance siblings with the same name alive at the same time? Any insights would be super helpful!

Re: Two sisters same name ?
In the region of Italy where I work, I have never come across it, but in my own genealogy (not in Italy) I have come across it several times that when the fathers or mothers of a husband and wife had the same name, there were two children with the same name, one commonly called for example John the Elder and the other John the Younger. I hope that when you are 100% sure you will share it here, because I would find such a case in Italy very interesting.

Adding onto this, you can find for reference the birth certificate of Vincenza married to Pietro Saporito on registriparrocchiali.archiviostoricodiocesiag.it portal under Casteltermini > Battesimi > Battesimi 18 1865 - 1876 -> page 715 of the digital scanTessa78 wrote: 15 Sep 2023, 15:16 For reference purposes:

Additionally, just to add. I have another instance of two half sisters with the same name in Casteltermini. I found their birth certificates on registriparrocchiali.archiviostoricodiocesiag.it and it confirms they are half sisters and they were alive at the same time and married.
Onofrio Magro married his first wife Providenza Castelluzzo in 1816 (church record confirms this) and had Maria Carmela Magro (born 1818) who married Vincenzo Varsalona in 1834 and then Vincenzo Circo in 1843.
Onofrio Magro married after the death of his first wife Concetta Morreale in 1826 and had a daughter named Maria Carmela Magro (born 1843) who married Pietro Tripli in 1859.
I found all the corresponding actual Church Records for these individuals - in the church record of the marriage of Onofrio to Concetta, it states he is the widower of Providenza.
Both Maria Carmela`s were alive at the same time as well...
