Santoro/Santore/Santre

I am looking for information about my 3x great - grandfather. His name was Giuseppe (Joseph) Santoro. He was born in 1844 somewhere in Puglia, Italy. At some point his children all took on derivations of the name including Santre, Santore and on some records Santora.

I am specifically interested in finding a birth record, travel documents, naturalization papers or any of the 1860, 1870, 1880, 1890 census’ for him.

His wife was named Maria Tosca, though different records have changed her last name as Oscaio, Josko, and Iosca. Anything found for her would be a boone too!

His children were:

Michael Santre 1878-1943
Rose Santoro 1882-1954
Concetta Santoro 1883 - 1936
James Santore 1886 - 1978

This has been a huge missing piece in our family tree for years.

The chilren all born in USA? But William stated to be born in Italy, ditto Concetta when married:

so Giuseppe arrived after 1876. I believe he arrived on 1889.

Responses to the Census actually contradict that Giuseppe Santoro was ever naturalized. It's a mess.

- adds one more to your collection of surnames for his mother: Socco
- this clears up some mystery on your other thread: in the 1933 death certificate for William Santre his mother is listed as Rose Morris, which is Rose Hart's maiden name. I had suggested that the Staten Island (Richmond County) address was Michael's. Now it seems to me that it was the deceased William's residence.

OK, this takes the cake! Apparently the same couple gets married two times, 13 years apart. Or else, some extraordinary coincidences going on with the Santre family name (names as indexed by NYC):
