Translating - Marriage License - Bonetti

Post by deigo1 »

Hello, could someone help with the translation of what the church indicated as part of the marriage license application file for Elisa Bonetti and Vittorio Menossi. His last name appears to be spelled incorrectly, but he was from a town Langhirano, which is ~ 2 hours away so they likely didn't know how to spell it. We do know he was in WW1, and I see some countries listed, so I didn't know if that is saying where he had been.

Thank you!
D.

This is a document to prove or demonstrate the free state of the groom to contract marriage. He was asked and gave his name, his father’s name, Paolo, his diocese, Parma, his town of residence, Langhirano, his age 37, and his occupation, operaio-laborer. It also speaks about his fulfillment of his required military duty. It says he made it at age 20 and then for 17 months. It appears to say he was in the actual war for three years, but then when it mentions locations, it says France for 8 years, 4 in America, and 1 in Africa. So the numbers are not adding up accurately for me, and I’m misunderstanding something in the document. Sorry. He was also asked whether during this time he had contracted marriage, or promised marriage to someone else, and he replied no. There should also be a second page to this document. The only other thing I have seen in free state of the groom documents is whether or not the prospective groom had any religious commitments-that is, whether he was a member of the clergy or some religious order. So possibly that is the issue that letter C at the bottom addresses.

Thank you very much, I did not realize the other page was a continuation. I have a few other pages the diocese sent, I believe this is the related page.

Also this was his military record from a prior post I had translated, it did look like the US and France were listed.

download/file.php?id=12665&mode=view

He was a miner, so perhaps he was in those areas mining. After his birth, most of what I have is the military record (it did look like ~3 years in the war) as the next piece of information, before him getting married and then coming to the US.

Thank you!

The last paragraph of the second page is an oath taken by Vittorio. It says that I, Minozzi Vittorio di Paolo, attest that in all the time in which I was in the military, and that I was in France, in America, and in Africa, I did not contract marriage nor make an actual valid marriage with any person, and that I am not bound by any impediments to contract true and legitimate marriage with Elisa Bonetti.

I have to get ready to go out for the day with my husband, so that's all I can do for now. I didn't get a chance to look at the military record yet.
