Can someone help me with the attached birth/baptism record. I just can't make out what it says - Italian and English would be great, but if you can simply tell me what it says in Italian, I can then translate it from there. Based on the index, I believe it's entry 9 (the 2nd one on the page). I'm trying to confirm if the child is Giacomo Costa as well as who the parents' names but cannot read any of it. Thank you in advance!

Please provide links to the index page and to the page you posted above. Also helpful would be the town name. Thanks.

Erudita - The town is Monreale, Palermo, Sicily, Italy. I'm looking at Giacomo Costa, born to parents Tomasso and Giovanella Costa, 5/7/1581, pg 95/9. 7
Here's the link to the index page: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=2046915
Here's a link to the page above: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=2046915
I've had no problems reading the books, until I get back to before 1600 or so. I just can't simply make it out. I think once it's confirmed that this is him and I can make out the key words, I can get a bit farther back.
Thank you so much for your help!

The index was very helpful. This record is very difficult to read, but I now see the first name Tomasso written as Thomasi in the record. The record is in Latin. Normally in the Latin records, I have not seen the name Tomasi with an "h" in it. In some church records for my husband's ancestry from a town in Siracusa, Sicily, the priest even used nicknames like Masi for Tomasi. After Thomasi, there is the word "et" for "and" followed by Giovanella's first name. Her name is spelled Goanella, with what looks like a comma in the air above and between the o and a. That should be the symbol that letters are omitted from the name. The surname Costa had me confused until I saw the index, as there is a space between the "co" and the "sta," and the "ne" with the "e" up in the air looks like it is attached to the "sta". I think the "n" with the "e" up in the air is an abbreviation for the Latin word nomen/name. Then there appears to be an abbreviation for the Latin name Jacobus (which is Giacomo in Italian). What follows may be the names of the godparents, but I can't decipher them. However, even though the date of the baptism is clearly May 7, 1581, I believe in the last line you have a date of birth of the 4th-born on the 4th/naq(ue) di 4.
That's all I can do with this one. Hopefully someone like mmogno will see this and be more helpful.
