Looking for a 1915 birth certificate from Santo Stefano Quisquina, Agrigento, Sicily

Post by jamesm113 »

There's 3 sources I know to look for such a record:

* https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ - However, they don't seem to have any records newer than 1859 for Santo Stefano Quisquina

* Tribunale records on family search: https://www.familysearch.org/search/cat ... %20Library However, the film with birth records for 1915 is locked and unavailable at home AND at a Family Search Center

* Stato civile records on Family Search - Only seem to have 1821-1831 available

Any ideas on where else I can look? Thanks!

The Diocese of Agrigento has parish records for various towns in the province, but for Santo Stefano the baptism records only go to 1912. Registration and a donation are required to access the records.

Yeah, I have access there as well. But only up to 1912 for baptism records, as you said...

Have you tried contacting the town to see if they have more recent birth records?

Actually, I did reach out to servizi-demografici@comune.santostefanoquisquina.ag.it last month. I used the request form but haven't received any response, not even a confirmation that they received my email. Do you think it would be worth reaching out to that info email as well?

I only need an electronic copy, which is why the Family Search archive is so tempting.

You could try the email link I gave you but, quite frankly, it’s a hit or miss situation with these offices. Maybe you’ll get lucky and your request will be passed along to the individual(s) who handles such requests. I think part of the problem is that there are currently so many individuals seeking documents for dual citizenship that these local offices are simply overwhelmed and don’t have sufficient staff to handle such requests.

Thanks. I guess I'll keep waiting for another month or so, then maybe try the other email.

I could also try snail mailing the request or finding someone who speaks Italian to call the office to see if the request is in the queue.

Well, I followed up with them, looks like you were right, they told me to email the info@comune.santostefanoquisquina.ag.it.

Very quick turnaround from that point - I got the certificate 1 day later.

Thanks for the help!
