Re: Falletti Family
Well I have some very good news. I just returned from Italy on September 12th. While there I made time to visit Pertusio, Italy in the Piedmont Region North of Turin.
Pertusion is the town where my grandparents born and lived until they came to America. When my grandmother passed away in 1980 we lost contact with and were not able to find any information.
I drove to the town (population 675) and posted on the corner street sign were seveal listings. One was Casa Vallero, Case Falletti, Case Pomatto and Casa Riva. I followed the sign to Casa Falletti and drove up a narrow old road to the end of th Lane. At the end was several houses. At one house and older man was working in his garden. When we tried to speak with him in Italian he could not understand. Different dialect. We left and then went to the only bar / resturant open and introduced ourselves. The lady working their spoke limited english and our Italina wasn't good enough to communicate our message. Also there was a man about 50 and his nephew, Staphano age 23. Staphano spoke enoguh english which allowed us to introduce who we were and that we were looking for family.
When I told Staphano my last name was Falletti, he told me that there were 67 Falletti famalies living in and around Pertusio. I then mentiond that my grandmother was a Vallero. He told me he was a Vallero and that the women I just met was alos a Vallero and the man owning the bar was a Falletti. Since there were many in town and proceeded to ask who my grandparents were, and then started calling Falletti's and Vallero's in town to see if they knew hwo my grandparents were.
As time passed more and more men from the village came to the bar, each with stories and relatives who went to America but they also had lost contact. Evryone was calling others and they even called the town Mayor to see if he would open the town hall for a record search.
This was now a town mission to find out who the American's belonged to.
After about two hours, and more men showed up to enter the search, one man came in with pictures of realatives from America. These pictures were old (1946) as I was looking through them I noticed one that looked very familier, it was a picture of my grandfather and grandmother.
The man was my grandmothers sisters son. When I told him that the picture he had was my grandparents, he proudly annouced that the American's were his family. He was my fahter's first cousin. He then asked us to come to his house where we met his wife and daughtet, my second cousin. When we arrived at his house he produced more pictures. As I was looking through them I came across a pictue of my father, my sister and then A picture of my when I was 5years old. When I told them that the picture was me, everyone was so excited and happy that no words will ever be able to convey the feelngs.
They told me they had these picutres that was sent from my grandmother to her sister, his mother, but they did not know who they all were until now.
As we looked at more picutres we were able to complete the family tree for both those in Italy and now those in America.
I heard stories of family moving to american and canada from the different families, all searching for information.
I was told that town records in Pertusio can help complete any who are searching for family information.
The best information they can use is marrige records.
I have asked them send me a contact that can help with old records. When i receive it I will post the information for any who wish to use it.

Re: Falletti Family
Your story brought tears to my eyes. What a fortunate and exciting experience. Whenever someone posts asking if they should try to track down family in Italy, they should be referred to this strand.
I am so happy for you and I wish you a long and happy time with your new famiglia.

Re: Falletti Family
It is very wonderful.... So much more than I expected. The house we went to was actually the house of my grandfather. He sold it to his wife's (my grandmother) sister and husband so he could come to America. They then passed this house on to their son. He showed me the wine cellar that they still use that my grandfather built, the well he built that they still use. Next door they converted the animal barn into a house for their son in law and daughter, my second cousin. They showed me the church my grandparents were married in 2000 feet above in the Italian Alps and much more.
The only regret is that I did not have more time this trip. Next year as we promised them, we will visit and bring more of the family for them to meet.
I hope this will give everyone searching the inspiration to continue. What you will find will be worth more than you can ever imagine.
Best regards to all.

That is a fantastic story Dennis! It's great that you could finally fill in the blanks on your family tree.
I'd love to learn more of my Great Grandfather and his Father's life in Pertusio. I'm going to have to plan a trip to Italy!

Re: Falletti Family
New to this site and how excited I was to see the notes from Tom and Dennis. I e-mailed each of you a pdf with my reserach to date. My grandfather is Giovanni Felice Vallero born in Pertusio in 1895 who came to the US in 1913. He married my grandmother, Katie Benvenuti in Spring Valley, Illinois. Lots of Valleros in Spring Valley. I plan to go there soon, but would love to join you in Pertusio! My sister was there a year ago and found a lot of information. Best wishes.

Re: Falletti Family
I know this is an old thread but I tried contacting the topic starter with the email address within but it bounced back. So I'm hoping Dennis is still following this thread and may see my reply.
I have a Margherita Faletto from Pertusio, Italy, in my family tree (and he has a Margherita Falletti) and I'm wondering: 1) if Dennis has ever found that spelling variation in his research for his family name; and 2) if he has found it, has he ever run across a Margherita Faletto/Falletti that married a Giovanni Riva.
I have no dates for my Margherita (my great-great grandmother). All I know about her is that she is the mother of my grandfather who was born in Pertusio 3/26/1873 and he (Giacomo Riva) immigrated in 1/18/1897 and settle in Grundy County, Illinois. USA and wife of Giovanni Riva
If anyone else has an opinion on whether or not Faletto and Falletti could be two spellings of the same family name, I'd welcome your input. There are a lot of similarities here. This thread was fun to read, especially when Dennis mentioned Standard, IL where my grandfather lived at one point in time.
