which ship did Scaduto Family come over on????????

Post by jscaduto »

I need help with this. I hope someone can help me. I will try to be brief and not confuse anyone. I am looking for the ship that my Great grandfather and great grandmother came over with with his children. They are listed on several passenger manifests but most of them have lined drawned across their names. I have come across a couple of them without lines so I assumed that it the ships they actually came over on. Here is the information that I have. The Scaduto family came from Sciacca Sicily. Here are the list of family members.
Guiseppe Scaduto (G. Grandfather)
Maria Lauro (G. Grandmother)
Children, Domenica, Iganzio, Vincenza, Lorenzo, Michaele, Rosa (Rosina)
On all the ships manifests I have found the address listed in 1 north square, or North square Boston. as the one they are going to. I know for a fact that this is where they lived.

Guiseppe Scaduto (great grandfather) and Michaele Lauro came over on the ss california arriving Oct. 2 1898, listed as going to New Orleans. (Lauro was a brother in law) not crossed out. There was always a family story that my G. Grandfather Guiseppe went to New Orleans before going back to Sicily and then coming to Boston.

Maria Lauro (great grandmother) and Ignazio Scaduto (grandfather) arriving on the ss Italia New york October 22 1905. not crossed out.

Guiseppe Scaduto with children Vincenza, Rosina, Lorenzo, micheale
ss Sicilian Prince, arriving august 7 1906 Crossed out

Guiseepe Scaduto with children (same as above) ss Napolitan Prince arriving new york sept or october 1906 Crossed out

Guiseppe Scaduto with same children ss san giorgio leaving palermo september 10, 1907 crossed out. crossed out.

Guiseppe Scaduto listed with children listed with children Vincenza, Michaele, ss San Giovanni sailing from Palermo October 4 1908 not crossed out.

Maria Lauro (great grandmother wife of Guiseppe) with children Lorenezo, Michaele, Rosa, Vincenza, and Ignazio, traveling on the ss Perugia arriving April 14, 1905. crossed out

Rosa Scaduto was listed as a detained passenger off the ship SS San Giorgio in December of 1908. she is also on the manifest but there are only a few passengers on the manifest that I found. she is not crossed out. I know that this is my great aunt, because Maria Lauro is listed as her mother.

Also I am looking for one other daughter of the Guiseppe Scaduto and Maria Lauro Family. Her name is Domenica Scaduto. She is listed in the 1910 census in Boston Domineca Indelicato her married name she married Guiseppe (Joseph) Indelicato and lived on Moon St. in Boston.
on the same census she is listed as coming to United States in 1896. Her birthday is September 15 1888 Sciacca Sicily. Died April 30 1983 in Boston MA. I have never found her on anything except for Census records.

I know this is alot of information I am hoping for any help anyone can give me. Thanks so much.

The line drawn through the name of a passenger meant that they were not on the ship. Passengers without the line were on the ship. This happened to me twice, so I was able to see when my ancestor was first planning to come to America, but was delayed for some reason, and, somtimes they answered to some questions differently, thus I ( and you ) are able to learn more about our ancestor.

Thank You Suanj
I Think and I could be wrong, but she went over to get Rosa, who then was detained. But the ships manifest lists Maria Lauro and children as non immigrant status. Does that mean she came over and went back again? I am still new to this so I get confused easily. I have found her and Ignazio coming over in 1905 as stated in my first post, they are not crossed out, so I figure that they did come over. Now all I have to find is exactly when Guiseppe came over with the rest of the children.

I'm so glad we could all help :D !
Since you asked, you were right!
finding Domenica wasn't easy.
Valarie

I checked for her 1910 census
and used the information to find
her 1907 marriage (on the NEHGS
database). It stated her age at
18 (born 1889).
The census had her immigration as
1896 & she had to be in Boston by
1907...

Since I couldn't find her using
all of her data, I started eliminating
information.
The final search was on ancestry.com
NY Ships for:

Dom* (no last name)
born 1889 +/- 0 yrs
immig 1901 +/- 5 yrs
Italian

I found this on the 3rd page of possibilities
on ancestry:

?? Dom?? Seodik
12 Aug 1902
13 yrs old, female

When I looked at the actual manifest
her father's name was just above hers.

Sometimes you just get lucky
