Take a look at this manifest. Most of the family didn't sail (line through names) but many names sound correct.

This may be Paul Frank Troy's WWI Draft Registration Card
He is 26 years old
Since he registered during the 1st registration, he wouldn't have been born in 1881
It appears to be a simple error in calculating his birth year as 1881 instead of 1891

Valarie
First Registration.
The registration on 5 June 1917, was for men aged twenty-one to thirty-one—men born between 6 June 1886 and 5 June 1896.
1917 Card

Frank Powel Troia
(card is not signed)
Elm Street Scranton Lackawanna PA
26 years old
Born 14 Mar 1881 (should be 1891)
Alien
Born in Capace Palermo (Capaci Palermo Sicily)
Laborer, Coal Co Scranton
Married
Wife & 2 Children

As suggested earlier, sometimes it helps to review records of possible relatives.
It's possible they may have traveled together on the same manifest.

1917 WWI Card

Salvatore Troia
same address as Francesco Paolo Troia
2 Sep 1889 in Capaci
I agree with you dear Valarie,
the WWI draft registration card is correct; the birthdate must be 14 March 1891; Capaci ( Palermo, Sicily) birthplace...

Unfortunately, the following manifest is mislinked on both Ellis Island and Ancestry:

Franco Paolo Troja (on Ancestry)
Franc Paolo Croja (on Ellis Island)
Age: 18, year of birth: about 1891
Marital status: single
Nearest relative in Italy: father Erasmo
Place of birth: Capaci
Ship: Italia
Arrival: 14 Mar 1909
Destination: New York NY to join brother Giuseppe Troja at 512 East 14th St

edited. Did a little searching and found the correct manifest pages.

Series: T715
Roll: 1215
Frames: 494 and 495 (2 page manifest)

Hopefully, the following links will work:

Frank,

In case you don't have this manifest for Maria DiGiovanna with parents and siblings. Lines 22 and following. Appears to be the correct family.
Father: Onofrio DiGiovanna; Mother: Margherita Maritato
Brothers: Filippo and Giuseppe
Sister: Francesca see line 30

Possible death record for Maria DiGiovanna's father:

Surname/Name/Age/Month/ Day/Year/Certificate#/County/Born
DiGiovanna Onofrio 49 y May 24 1903 9115 Kings 1853-1854

If this is Maria's father, he passed away 23 days after arriving in the US.
The age matches his age on the manifest posted above. "SI" special inquiry is noted on the manifest.

Great find Biff!

Mary is a widow by 1930, but has a 3year old. That puts Fank Paul's death around 1926/27.

By the way San Erasmo is the patron saint of Capaci. That where the name comes from.

Hi, MJ :D !

I'm finding it tough locating records for the Troia and DiGiovanna families. Still trying to locate Franceso Paolo, and Maria DiGiovanna and family's 1910 census records.

Also no luck locating marriage information on stevemorse site or the Lackawanna county marriage records index which currently ends in June 1914. Nice site if you'd like to bookmark but many folks, including my relatives, didn't apply for a marriage license but were just married in a church.

Folks,

I have not had much luck triangulating information on my Grandfather in terms of his brothers, sisters, etc. back in Capaci, Palermo, Sicily. Is there any way to search records in Sicily?

Thanks
Frank

Your nearest Family History Center has records for Capaci on microfilm.
The cost is about $6 mo (rent), you’ll need to go to the center to order & view them.
