Spano/Rudi

Post by Cavecreekmommy »

Hi:

I'm trying to find more information on my Grandma's side of the family. Her mom's name was Laura Rudi and her dad's name was Joe Spano who had a brother, Nunzio Spano. I always heard they were from Reggio Calabria but no one can confirm that information for me.

My Grandmother was Frances Joan Spano. Her siblings were Josephine, Millie, Paline, Salvatore, and Paul Spano. Her mom then remarried a man whom I believe to be Santo Latona and they had two more children, Gloria and Sonny.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Bethany

Perhaps a search of US records will reveal the exact town of origin, as all records are kept at the local level in Italy.
Where in the US did this family reside? Do you have any dates or even a year of birth for any family members?
Thanks

Note both the 1920 and 1930 census are consistent with birth place of Pauline,
California:

California Birth Index, 1905-1995

Name: Pauline J Spano
Birth Date: 14 Apr 1916

Hmm I wonder if the Saureta Spano from the Spano census is actually meant to read "Laureta Spano" I'm a bit confused how you say the census records are consistent with a California birthplace. This is actually interesting because I heard my Grandma (Frances) had llived in California for many years on her Uncle's farm. I did not know if she was born in California, New Jersey, or New York. Most of my family immigrated to New York.

Thank you.

One of the questions asked on any census is "Birth place", California is given for Pauline on both the 1920 and 1930 census, however, for the child "Mollie", one census list California and the other list New York.

Biancavilla is in the Catania Province, Region of Sicily.

And yes, I do believe the name to be Lauretta.

I don't think this is him. I believe my Nunzio Spano was born about 1868 and immigrated to New York in 1900. I actually think that Joseph and Laura Spano (Rudi) immigrted around 1904

Great find Suanj! :D

As for the Nunzio manifest..that is why I stated a possibility, had you provided his birth year, or a close approximation, those searching for a manifest can narrow down the possibilities. Otherwise we are just looking for a Nunzio arriving in USA ....
