So close but no cigar!!!
I finally got naturalization records for my G grandfather Giuseppe DeFilippis. He became a citizen only 4 months before my grandfather was born. My G grandmother was literally 6 months pregnant with my grandfather when he was naturalized. Boy, that stinks.
Thanks for all your help in getting the correct info on Giuseppe to finally get a date.

So sorry, but you only need one line to qualify. Best of luck on the Passaro line.
Re: So close but no cigar!!!
Alicia, when was your grandfather born? On/After Jan 1, 1948?
Re: So close but no cigar!!!
OK, you may already have a problem going through your grandfathers mother. Prior to Jan 1, 1948 women could not pass along citizenship to their children.
Maybe I am missing something, what line is Benjamino in? Can you give me that line?

This is all paternal.

What is the whole line though? You can't have two grandfathers strictly male. There has to be a female in there somewhere.
EDIT: Is this your grandfathers mother? If so then the 1948 law comes into effect and your grandfather couldn't get citizenship through her.

I think she means her mother's father's father. In other words: Alicia -> mother -> grandfather (mother's father) -> great grandfather. So long as Alicia was born on or after 1/1/1948 AND great-grandfather did not naturalize prior to birth of grandfather...tonyric wrote:What is the whole line though? Alicia -> mother -> grandmother (mother's mother) -> great grandfather would work as well if Alicia's mother was born on or after 1/1/1948.
Re: So close but no cigar!!!
I need to clarify this:
If Beniamino was your grandfathers mothers father, it won't work due to 1948 laws
If this was your fathers mothers father, then as long as your grandmother was born on/after Jan 1 1948, you are fine.

OK Now I see it, this is not straight paternal and that was what I was missing. This line does seem to qualify as long as Beniamino sis not naturalise prior to the birth of Antonio. Although, I seem to remember some other rules that come into play from around 1906 that might cause some issues. Let me see if I can find the references.

OK, it is 1912. You need to find out when/if Beniamino naturalized. If he naturalized before Antonio came to the age of majority (not sure if it was 18, 20 or 21 at the time for Italy) you mayl not qualify as Antonio may not have received citizenship from his father due to Italian Law n. 555 of June 13, 1912
