I would suggest a more detailed post in order for members to better direct your search. Grandfather's full name? Birth year? Rough guess of when he may have entered US? Was he married at the time? Spouse's full name? Any children? And in which US state did he reside?

You may already have this...Giachino's Naturalization Index card. If you can get his declaration/petition you may have more clues to his arrival.

as a friendly gesture, i looked up on the 1900 census for you in Ancestry.com.....

Boston, Ward 6, ED 1242 for 196 Endicott Street (on page 6) does not show your grandfather listed at the address. ..and no Lombardi at this address either.

I know what it's like to NOT find records you are looking for....good luck in your search.

Manifest for Carmine Lombardi has him immigrating to USA from Naples arriving March 22, 1893, on SS Ems. He is listed as 40, tailor, from Montemiletti, Italy and heading to Boston, MA. Looks like his wife, Pasqualina Scopa, 23, and son Ignacio, 6 months are traveling with him.

Let's see if we can find him somewhere in the 1900 Census...

Looks like Giachino is listed as "John" on the 1930 Census, and "Jack" on the 1920 Census.

On the card in the earlier post, I am 90% certain that the number 4325237 is the naturalization certificate ("C File") number. That being the case, you can go to USCIS and file a "Records Request", skipping the Index Request -the purpose of which is simply to find the C number. You can also try the National Archives, which generally offers faster response. Go to https://eservices.archives.gov/orderonl ... lRefresh=1 and begin by creating a user account. I wish we could find your manifest...
When you recieve your naturalization paperwork it should have the ship arrival information.
If they were able to verify the information on his Declaration and Petition there will even be a Certificate of Arrival listing the ship, the port and the arrival date.

Hi!

I am also descended from Montemiletto ... as well as the adjacent Torre le Nocelle and Pietradefusi. I have available many records from Torre, and some from the other two places, mainly my own direct ancestors.

Some of your family names are not familiar to me ... although I have MANY LombardOs in my tree.

My grandparents also came to Boston and stayed nearby ... I suspect we may have some connections.

Found what I was looking for.... finally. He did arrive in 1900.
I traced him back and found his family and the family of his wife!!!. I know who they were now and am very happy. My research now has moved to Italy, montemiletto and pietradefusi. I am on the receiving end of a wealth of information! I have located the graves of my paternal great grandfather and his wife and my maternal great grandmother and her husband, and the incredibly HUGE family she was from! I have been frustrated in the search for my grandmother and her family from pietradefusi but no more. I am sharing e mails and learning more Italian all the time!

This has only taken 10+ years and worth every bit of it. I can check this one off the old 'bucket list'. I have a solid genealogy going for me now with the help of a very kind geneologist...

I finally found the Certificate of Arrival. The ship did not begin with the letter G.
