Welcome to the forum! :-)

On your family tree at Ancestry the Social Security Death Index lists his date of birth as 7 Feb. 1881 not 1883.

Thank You Maestra and Tessa;

I have seen a couple of different documents on James (SSDI, Census) that list conflicting dates of birth. As near as I can tell he arrived in NY 1900, but I have been unable to find his passenger list. There is one document that could be the one, but the paper is damaged and illegible. I have a found records on a few of his brothers, and a number of records for his wife's family.

I find nothing in the 1910 census, but I do find James and Louise in Groton in 1920 with their 4 children, and then in LB, NY in 1930 with the two younger kids.

I would love to try and find his brothers and sisters that did not emigrate, and make contact with family in Italy. Any suggestions?

The name James is often an Americanized version of Vincenzo. I found this manifest for a Vincenzo going to a brother, Frank. Do you think this is a possibility? :D

Possible. Multiple docs list his date as 1900, but the age would be right and Frank lived in brooklyn. I will check with my Aunt and see if he was ever reffered to as Vincenzo.

Thanks!!!!!!!

This Vincenzo seems to be joining his brother Francesco

BTW James is mainly the americanized version of Giacomo. There is a Manifest of Giacomo leaving at home (Castel Cisterna) his father Giuseppe. But the arrival date is 1911

Livio, :D

You are right in translation. However, for some strange reason, many Vincenzos became James in America. Vincenzo would be translated as Vincent, but so many became "James" I have no idea why. :?

If we had some idea of the town of origin, it would make searching much easier.

Here is a 1930 manifest for James and Luisa ...

It notes a Passport number for James, issued in 1929, Washington, DC. If you can locate passport it may provide more information.

misbris - I believe he was refered to as Giacomo. I have tried James, Giacomo, and Vincenzo for immigration year 1900 +-1 with no luck. Two census record list him as coming in 1900, with a birth date of 1883 or 1881. I know he would up failry quickly in in Groton CT.

Possible manifest for Giacomo Liguori, arriving 1903, born about 1880, going to Brooklyn, to bro-in-law(?) Alberto (can't read last name)

Thans so much, I will keep digging.
