Found new Briscione info

Post by misbris »

Hi guys,

Looking for your help on a new record I just found on Family search about my great uncle Pasquale Briscione. I was surprised because based on this manifest I thought he married in Italy.

http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0018

If anyone can figure out who he was going to, I would appreciate it. to me it looks like wife's friend or wife of friend. :?

In fact, he married in NJ 3 years before this manifest.

Groom's Name: Pasquale Briscione
Groom's Birth Date: 1870
Groom's Birthplace:
Groom's Age: 27
Bride's Name: Carmela Contore
Bride's Birth Date: 1869
Bride's Birthplace:
Bride's Age: 28
Marriage Date: 06 Jan 1897
Marriage Place: Newark, Essex, New Jersey
Groom's Father's Name:
Groom's Mother's Name:
Bride's Father's Name:
Bride's Mother's Name:
Groom's Race:
Groom's Marital Status:
Groom's Previous Wife's Name:
Bride's Race:
Bride's Marital Status:
Bride's Previous Husband's Name:
Indexing Project (Batch) Number: M02526-8
System Origin: New Jersey-EASy
Source Film Number: 589814
Reference Number: pg281, rn189
Collection: New Jersey Marriages, 1678-1985

I have a 1920 NY manifest for this family. I just found a possible 1890 citation at Castlegarden (no manifest)
http://castlegarden.org/quick_search_de ... id=8160761

However, I can't find the wife or any other census for the family. I believe her last name was actually CANTORE.

I'd appreciate any help or advice.

Hi mj :-)

Looking really closely...after wife, that looks like just a flair ( or a "no" with a flair like the one above it), and under the darker writing is a name which looks like a first name that ends in "-ina" and last name resembles "Candolo/Condolo" - which could be Cantore, I guess.

this is a better copy of the arrival manifest from ancestry.com:
http://www.postimage.org/image.php?v=aVtNooi

looks like he was joining his wife Carmina Candolo? on 48 Mulberrry street NY

PMaybe the correct last name was Cantore

Sorry I was away for for 2 days.

Thank you all for the help. I had never seen the 1910 census or the 1890 manifest before, so a special thanks to Laura, vj, and suanj. and thanks Tessa for the good eyesight.

Here is the problem.I can't find Carmela Cantore. (I am almost possitive that is the correct name because Pasquale's aunt married a Cantore) I think this may be a younger sister of Antonio Cantore or a daughter. if so Pasquale married a first cousin. I can't find a reasonable manifest for Carmela. Either the age is wrong or she is not here in 1897 when the marriage took place. This is the only possible record I found.

http://www.ellisisland.org/EIFile/popup ... &line=0025

and she is listed as single and going to an Uncle in NY.

As far as I know Pasquale never lived in NJ, but other family members did. Is is possible that this is a proxy marriage or am I barking up the wrong tree? This is important because I am in touch with other Cantore family members and this would be another bond.

Any thoughts or any other possible records for Carmela?

MJ

Also,

There were 4 children, John, Filomena (Florence) Anna and Salvatore. Pasquale's parets were Giovanbattista and Filomena. I haven't found John or Salvatore's birth records. Pasquale was a shoemaker in NY.

Misbris:
you are sure , absolutely, that the 1897 marriage in New Jersey is abt YOUR Pasquale?
by 1910 census, Carmela seeming born in 1880 abt; imm. in 1898.. I know that in the censuses it are the errors, but the age matching with 1920 census also, so I believe that really Carmela was born abt in 1880...
I say so, because in 1910 census they was married from 12 years and it matching with Carmina Cantore arrival....

suanj,

The name is so rare it is unlikely that it could be anyone else. I never saw any NJ records on line before, but found this one on Family Search. I have the church records from Newark on permanent loan so I will try to crosscheck that. However, I can't be sure they married in that parrish or even married in church. There are no NY records except for the children.

Also the Cantore relationship makes so much sense. This is a puzzle! :?
