Occupation- rondiere?
Occupation- rondiere?
Ciao Tutti,
I just came across a rec that has an occupation of: rondiere.
At first I thought it was vondiere but it looks like he just had open "r's" that look like a 'v'.
But either way- I don't see any occupations that match.
Anyone know what this is?
Grazie!

Re: Occupation- rondiere?
Can you scan and upload the document?
I see that in Romanian, "Rondier" (without the final e) comes from the French and means the person making the rounds in a factory to check the proper functioning of the installation. Like a foreman, I guess.

Re: Occupation- rondiere?
I just came across the death record for the same guy and there his occupation is just bracciale...so who knows!
Maybe this is a regional term or something that means essentially the same thing?

Or it could be an occupation he held earlier in his life
Don't you want to have us take a look?

Tis true, Tessa.
I guess I'm just a little jaded. You know how you're always seeing the same profession over and over? Well on the rare occasions that I've found something different and gotten excited about it always ended up just being another word for the same thing.

rondieri municipali
Re: Occupation- rondiere?
rondieri ( una sorta di guardia a sostegno delle autorità di polizia)
a sort of guard to sustain the authority of the police.
La forza armata de' rondieri dipenderà dall'autorità di polizia- an armed force dependent on the authority of the police
It appears to have been a municipal position

That's awesome. Many thanks! This is the first time that I've seen this one.
Re: Occupation- rondiere?
This is also the first time I have ever heard of this occupation. We both learned something new today. Happy I finally found some info about it.

Re: Occupation- rondiere?
sounds like a constable - assists police by keeping the peace in local neighborhoods (making rounds).
