NYC Marriage Certificate INFO
NYC Marriage Certificate INFO
Hi - My great grandparents were married in NYC on Jun 30, 1907. Does anyone know if information regarding the names of the bride and groom would be included on that paperwork? I'm looking for information on the parents of the bride (Catherine FIno) Mom=Luigia Nardello/Nardiello Dad = Joseph Fino. I'm trying to figure out where the Fino/Nardiellos came from. I'm not even sure if her last name was Nardiello or Nardello. Thanks, Diane

Hi Diane
Generally, the NYC marriage record includes the names of parents of the bride and groom, and their place of residence. This includes the maiden name of mothers.

Re: NYC Marriage Certificate INFO
Hi Joe, I hope you are well. I can't thank you enough for that lead on the Manfredonias.
I don't think that's him because I estimate his date of birth to be about 1854 or so. I know my GGGM was about 8 years or so older than him making her birth year about 1848 or so. They both died here in the US. He died abt 1940 in Weehawken NJ. She died about 1932 in Hoboken NJ. Dad doesn't know the exact dates and I can't seem to find death records for them. Legend has it that either the Fino or the Nardiello/Nardello or both came from Foggia. But that's a region and not a town so I can only guess which town they were from.
My nephew is currently going to school at Stephens Institute and I just asked him to go down to the records dept of the town to see if he can get a copy of death certificate to get exact names, etc for my GGGM. We'll see if they can find it.
I tried going to the Family Center but there was a sign on the door stating that it was closed until January, I'll check next year. Regards, Diane

Re: NYC Marriage Certificate INFO
Word of caution - don't take the marriage certificate as the final authority on name spelling. On my great grandparents' marriage cert, the husband's name was spelled two different ways, his sister in law's name was butchered, and my GGM's name had the wrong vowel at the end. Great sources of info and great to have but many times the info was written or typed in by someone who didn't speak/write Italian.
Researching surnames:
[In Teramo area] - Core / Fani / Venanzi / Secone / di Luca / Vannoni / Leteo / Bianchini / Cistola / Felicione / di Marco / Casalena / Romantini / Cintioli / di Francesco / Caponi / Foschi / Traini / d'Ascenzo / Ciare / Ciavattini
[In Campagna and Eboli] - Iorio / Adelizzi

Great marriage details, suanj!!!
As for the Fino surname, I also thought it might be Del Fino, or another variation... As you say, found in the Foggia area.
Using these variations may help to locate a manifest...

Re: NYC Marriage Certificate INFO
Hi Tessa, it could be helpful to know if Giuseppe and Luisa married in Italy or not; maybe they are in 1880 census... and the surname spelling could be more correct..

Re: NYC Marriage Certificate INFO
HI All - thanks for all of your posts! Everyone has been really helpful on the board.
A few things. Boy, the names are really screwed up in some cases. I guess it really doesn't make any sense to order a copy of the marriage certificate if it's this information that will be provided to me.
Louisa, She really was about 8 yrs older than Joseph but she always lied about her age because she was embarassed about that.
They were married in Italy according to my father around 1880 and then came over shortly after that for good. He might have come over himself before that time for a visit and then went back.
I've seen some of that infor before. But the real question is whether their last name may have been shorted from D'Fino or Del Fino to Fino. How do you think I could find that out?
Is their a document for his or her naturalization?
Thanks so much for your help.
Regards, Diane
