Help needed to the Civil Registration in Italian

Post by jantonelli81 »

Hello,

I am in the process of trying to write to the Ufficio si stato Civile to find out if my relatives did indeed come from this town and if so I would like to receive copies of their vital records.

I am actually traveling to Italy for the first time and will by driving through the town where my relatives came from on my way to Capri this July. If I do not hear back from Italy , should I stop by the town? I will be traveling with two people who are fluent in Italian and who lived in Italy for sometime, hopefully that helps.

Also, should I send money or request they respond with the amount I would need to pay them for their time and or/ documents.

See Attached Letter

Thanks,
Jenn

Hi,

Thanks for alerting me to that ! I for some reason can't figure out how to attach the letter. Not sure why, but I did cut and paste the letter below.

Thanks again,
Jenn

Hi Jenn,

Try using an image-sharing site... A good one is www.imageshack.com
No registration necessary.

After uploading your image, cut and paste the "Direct link" code into this forum :-)

I'm sorry. I am trying to mulitask and write lesson plans and post to this site. I posted a letter that was a sample, not the correct one.

here is is...
Ufficio di Stato Civile
Comune di Sant’ Ambrogio sul Garigliano
24 febbraio 2011

I would like to add somewhere in the letter, in not so many words, that I would like to confirm that Donato Antonelli came from this comune and if Mauro and Maria Messore were his parents and Giovanni his brother. Through research I have found these names written on documents , but it is all really speculation.
Egregi Signori,
Accludo $[amount of money].

Jennifer Antonelli

I have made some slight changes. You don't need to send money because these documents are free of charge, however I kept a sentence offering to pay for the research. The village is very small, around 1000 inhabitants, therefore I believe they will easily help you.
The complete address is:

Ufficio di Stato Civile
Via Roma 38
03040 Sant'Ambrogio sul Garigliano FR
Italy

Jennifer Antonelli

Thank you for your help!

I just have one more question. If my family only lived there for less then 10 years or so and if none of them were married, born or died there, would there be any information on them? What would my next steps be? Is there an office I can write to for the Province they may have been from?

I only wonder this because there are no Antonellis burried in this tiny town.

In this case the Ufficio Angrafe (which in a small village could be the same person of the Stato Civile) should keep a residence record with an indication of the place of birth and of the previous place where they lived.

I believe the town office is only open in the mornings, probably only until noon.
Messore surname is most common in Vallemaio
Antonellis is most common in San Donato Val di Comino.
