Reggio, Calabria
This is what I have found listed as my Grandfathers home town. I have also seen Regiono. When I looked on Family search- they break it down to many small towns. Does anyone know if this is the towns name- or is it the Region? I just recently read in a book that Reggio was one of the areas devastated in the 1908 Earthquake/Tsunami. His name was John DeMaria. ( ? Giovanni) Thanks!!!

Have you found your grandfather's passenger manifest yet? If yes, can you give us the details so that we can have a look?
If not, any info you can share regarding your grandfather (date or year of birth, place settled in US, grandmother's name, approximate year of immigration...) will help us locate records which may lead to the actual place of birth.

Re: Reggio, Calabria
Reggio di Calabria (the official name since 1862) has usurpated many many villages in its surroundings the last 140 years.
Maybe my website http://www.benvanrijswijk.com/fontigenealogiche.htm can help you a little bit.

Re: Reggio, Calabria
The comune is actually "Roggiano Gravina" in the Calabria Region, Province of Cosenza...
It is about 230 km north of Reggio di Calabria.
Official website (you will need to use online webpage translator if you don't read Italian)

There are civil records available on microfilm for Roggiano Gravina, Cosenza from 1809-1910 through your nearest LDS (Mormon) Family History Center. You can rent the films and view them at the center.
