Looking for surname Descafano

My surname Descafano which I believe may have been spelled different in Italy. My great grand father came through Ellis Island during the early part of the 20th century and his first name was Giuseppe, but other than that I have found nothing else. I would love to find out if the spelling of my name is incorrect and if there is any information about my family in Italy. Thanks

The name Descafano does not exist in present day Italy... however, you will find ONE comune/town with the name Destafano, and several with Destefano... Spelling variations are many...

I found this surname only in US records; but I am positive that the original italian surname was DI SCLAFANI; sicilian surname, Palermo area...

Just spoke with my dad and it turns out that Joseph Descofono is who we were looking for apparently Giuseppe was not his name. If there is anything else you can find out it is greatly appreciated. Thanks again
