Need help with birth translation please

Post by lorinigro »

Could someone please help translate this record? On the atti di matrimonio for Fulfio Galopen and Giuditta Rizzo it lists both his parents as "unknown" and I'm curious to know what the birth record says. Let me know if I need to upload again - I've been having issues with imageshack lately where the image doesn't seem big enough.

Hello Lor the image is blurry and can't be enlarged is this record from Ancestry if so leave a prompt of the page and I will uploaded it for you.If you crop the image in 1/2 of each side of the page the resolution will be bigger and better.

Yes it is from ancestry.

Potenza, Basilicata, Italy, Civil Registration Records, 1861-1938

Potenza > Potenza > Atti di Nascita > 1886 > 231

Thank you! What am I doing wrong when I upload?

Here is the image of Fulfio Galopen's birth...

Under his name is "trovatello" which means foundling.

Woman who presented him at the town hall was named Marrianna Caggiano, age 50.

Also under his name in the margin is the annotation for his marriage to Giuletta Rizzo on 15 March 1902(?)

Wow thank you! Does it say where he was left? Is there any other pertinent info in the record? The date for the marriage is 1903 - I do have that record.

I'm so so grateful. Reading these are not easy!

Well, it looks like Marianna Caggiano presented to the official of the town, a male child who appeared to be about 15 days old, who she found wrapped in rags/cloth with a note on which was written Fulfio Galopen. The child seems to have been left at 5 AM at the "wheel" of the abandoned (proietti).
[excellent info at blog here http://www.italiangenealogy.com/blog/en ... foundlings ]

The official gave the child the name Fulfio Galopen.
It looks like the official then entrusted the child to Antonia Brindesi, 35, peasant farmer residing in Potenza, wife of Bonaventura Castravillari, peasant farmer, residing in Potenza. It appears that Antonia had lost a female child who was born without life (stillborn).

Witnesses:
Gaetano Laguardia, 40, servant
Gerondo Lacurcia, 74, servant

That's the best I can do...
Hope someone else takes a look and gives any needed clarity to the details :-D
