name of mother on birth record?

Post by bkworm10 »

Can anyone please tell me the surname of the mother on Pietro Rocco Laraja's birth record? Is it Rosa Brienza? Brierya? - I cannot figure it out. Also, where would this surname originate in Italy? It's not in the town of Accettura as I have not seen it before.

Thanks! A.

I agree with Marty that the surname looks like Brienza :-)

Use this site to see where the name exists in Italy today...
Enter "Brienza" at cognome

Thank you Marty and Tessa! I did that and that surname, while not in the commune of Accettura, is definitely in a lot of communes in the Basilicata region.

Thanks again! Annette

I have a question about the surname of the child that you have listed as "Pietro Rocco Laraja". I thought that the letters: J, K, W,X and Y did not exist in old Italian records.

Thanks for any input.

John

what looks like a j is actually an elongated i often used to differentiate between different stems of the same family surname.
