The ink has disappeared in places, and the writer has quite a flourish :D which I think is why you could not read "contadino"

Hi Pippo M.
I got these records off a microfilm (#1640552 Nati 1871-1890) for Cervinara (Avellino) which I ordered at the Family History Center in Loudonville, NY. I am researching my grandmother Angela Cillo's family. I also found many siblings of my grandfather Giuseppe and great-grandfather Luigi from Rotondi on a couple of other microfilms. I copied the records to a USB drive and loaded them on my home computer.

The act is dated 21st September but the baby was born on 20th September. The sentence says: "....del dì Venti del volgente mese...."

Mea culpa! :o

I thought the change to day 20 PippoM referred to was the date of the record... :oops:
I read it too fast...

I agree! The date of record is 21 and the date of birth is 20! :D

Glad to have all those eyes!

@Haztek:
do you mean they let you take photos of the records, or were the microfilm in a digital format?

Pippo:
You view the microfilm in a microfilm viewer. The place I go has about 6 or 7 viewers that you can only look at the records. When you find a record you want to save, you have to remove the microfilm from that viewer and place in into a special viewer they have which is connected to a PC. They use a program on the PC to scan the record and then save it to your USB storage device, which you have plugged into the PC. You can then remove the USB device, take it home and upload the images to you hard drive. I hope this explains the process. It would be nice if you could scan and save the image on the microfilm viewer you are using, but the equipment they have at the Family History Center I go to is pretty old. Jerry

I understand how it works.
I also suppose in the center in Roma, where I was, they don't have the special viewer. However, I also asked them if I could take a picture of the screen of the "normal" microfilm viewer, but they said I couldn't. May be different centers have different rules...

Yes, you are correct. There is a man who goes to the center I go to that made a special tripod for his camera (a expensive,complex camera that he can adjust the settings) that has perfected a way to take pictures of the images on the microfilm viewer. The center allows him to do so. Jerry
