Came to USA as 'NAPILILLO"

Post by salomos »

I am searching for the surname of NAPILILLO without any luck. They came to America around 1885 to 1887. This name could possibly have been Englisized and spelled differently when they came to USA. Can anyone tell me what the Italian spelling of this name might be? Or does this name actually appear somewhere in Italy with this spelling and I just haven't found them yet? (Frank NAPILILLO born about 1863 in Italy married Mary MARRIELLO)

Hi,
you should tell us something more to help our search...for instance, their first names, where they settled, and so on.
"Napilillo" can't be found in Italian white pages; my guess is "Napolillo"; a lot of people with such surname went to USA according to Ellis Island and Castle Garden, the sites that report arrivals of immigrants to USA.

Hi, Debi! :D THANKS!

Here is a possible manifest for Maria Mariello (listed as Mariella)
Since I don't know the maiden name of Maria's mother, I don't know if the Teresa de Rusati(sp?) listed below her is her mother... Another clue might be the child listed below Maria - Parantonio, age 2. According to the 1900 Census Maria has a brother listed on the census as "Anton" who is about 10 years younger than Maria, and immigrated at the same time as her AND her mother... :-)

Date of birth and year of immigration look good for this manifest.
Unfortunately, these early manifests don't have much information...

I have traced your Napolillo family for you in my Nusco records. It appears from some previous posts people have some incorrect information. Here is the correct information for you:
Stefano Napoliilo (died 1902) married Teresa Ranese. Children of Stefano and Teresa: Francesco Saverio (born 1863), Antonio (born 1872) Columba (born 1857) Filomena Maria (born 1852, Gerardo Maria (born 1860, Michele Mari9a (born 1854) and Antonio born? (died 1871)
Stefano Napolillo is the son of Raffaele Napolillo (born about 1802 died 1875) and Regilla Ferrantino. Children of Raffaele and Regilla: Stefano (died 1901, Amato (born 1836 died 1904), Catarina Maria (born 1831 died 1910), Salvatore (died 1855, Vincenzo (born 1834 died 1904), Francesco Saverio (born 1845 died 1846), Angelo Amato Vincenzo (born 1828), Carmine Stefano Amato (born 1826),Giovanni (born 1842), Giuseppe Maria (born 1847, Teresa Maria (born 1850). Raffaele Napolillo is the son of Salvatore Napolillo (born about 1782)and Teresa Mongelluzzo. Children of Salvatore and Teresa: Raffaele (born about 1802 died 1875), Angela Rosa (born 1814), Michele (died 1848), Amato, Rosa (died 1857), Anna Maria Saveria (born 1818 died 1891), Antonio (died 1813). Salvatore Napolillo is the son of Vincenzo Napolillo. When I list the children above, there may be more that I just do not show record of. I hope this helps! Please e-mail me at say5@earthlink.net if you have any further questions on the Napolillo records. Sherry
