Angiela Maria Santalucia immigration

I am looking at this manifest and trying to figure out where Angiela came from and any other pertinent info. Is it likely that Santalucia was her maiden name from Italy? Did she travel on this trip? I'm not sure if she is crossed out.

Looks like Angiola Maria came from CRACO

My guess is that Santalucia is her maiden name
She and her son seemed to be crossed off, but that could mean that they didn't sail, or are listed somewhere else in the manifest...

After I posted that inquiry, I found her on a census (I think it was 1920) with her daughter Rachel Santalucia. I wondered if there was a husband.
Who is her son?

On the first manfest, Vincenzo is listed as "son Vincenzo" - and yes, there is no surname given. However, at the end of the line her destination is husband (can't read name) and his is father.

On the second manifest you posted, Angiola is listed as a "Citizen" and was "Dis[charged] on Pier" - destination, "husband P[asqua]le Farrara"

Don't see the son on this manifest...

The 1920 Census you found, what city?

This looks like her 1930 Census... living with daughter Rachel's family...
First name is grossly misspelled

Here is the 1910 census. Rachele and Marie have the same surname. It is where the confusion started and I haven't been able to iron it out. I have seen other places where she is listed as "Maria". I believe there is enough evidence to believe I am dealing with the same person.
I haven't been able to come up with any logic why Rachele and Maria have the same surname. Does any of this make any sense to you?

Hi Jim,

Looking at the 1910 Census, the HEAD of household is Giulo Santalucia, and everyone is listed as they relate to HIM.

So, Maria (Angiola Maria) Santalucia is listed as his "step mother" and she is a widow.

Giulio, Raffaele, Caterina, Rachele and Bessie appear to be siblings.

Michael Pardano/Perdano is married to Bessie and is listed as "brother-in-law", and his son Johann is Giulio's nephew.

There is a good possibility that Angiola Maria's maiden name was the same as her married name , but I do believe that Rachele's maiden name is Santalucia.

Looks like Rachele married another Pandano/Pantano (1920 Census) sometime between 1910 and about 1915. Maybe you can find that marriage record. It will show her maiden name.

According to the Census you posted, all but Giulio arrived in 1906.
Maybe getting papers for Raffaele will show more information.

I actually got to the Santalucia family thru the Pantano family. I thought that Maria was Rachele's mother. I never considered the possibility of Maria having the same original surname. You have made me rethink the whole relationship.

because thisAngiola Santalucia on the ship's manifests was born around 1867, US citizen and joining at Pasquale Ferrara husband, and she never before in USA...

something not matching....

on 1910 census her first name was Lucia and widow, imm. in 1906 and all family seeming arrived in USA around 1906
abt Giulio and Raffaele I am pretty sure abt the arrivals....

the arrival of Angiola (1900) is abt another person... different person... second my opinion...

If you are searching for the step mother of Giulio and Raffaele, as appearing in 1910 census and 1930 census,
well she was Maria Luigia GUERRIERA/O b. abt 1868 married Santalucia, coming from Carlantino, emigrated with daughters:

Rosalia age 17, Caterina age 19, Rachele age 14

all joining at Giulio Santalucia in 598 Pennbroke St Bridgeport, CT
the address is the same of 1910 census.

The daughters travelled under mother maiden name.

So the husband of Maria Luigia was Santalucia, and widow with children, remarried with Maria Luigia and had the daughters...

After him death, Maria Luigia and daughters emigrated also..

Thank you for that wonderful research. I was really struggling to figure out this whole puzzle.
However, I do have a question. How common was it for daughters to travel under mother's maiden name? I don't believe I have seen that before.

Hi Jim,
I think from the place where the coin was issued a passport, and only when there were children of minor age and if they were accompanied only by mother.
Happened rarely, but it happened ...
other possibility was that, who wrote the names on ship's manifest, read just the first surname on passport (in this case the maiden name of Maria Luigia)

and wrote just the children first names...

you know that it are many ship's manifest, where the surname of a child was wrote as mother maiden name, and after crossed and wrote the child surname..

in this Maria Luigia ship's manifest no, maybe Maria Luigia no claimed the correction, who know?
