Post by DebiHarbuck »

Can anyone puzzle out the name of the town given as the "place of birth" on this draft card for Nicola Vitale?

Hi I believe that the birth place is TEANA, Potenza province, Basilicata region; I found the WWII record:

U.S. World War II Draft Registration Cards, 1942 about Nicholas Vitale
Name: Nicholas Vitale
Birth Date: 5 Mar 1892
Birth Place: Potenza, Italy
Residence: Rich, New York
Race: White
wife Filomena, and I am sure that is the same person that moved from NY to NJ

and if my search is right the full name was VITALE Francesco Nicola born in Teana on 4 March 1891 son of Giuseppe age 28 farmer and of Marianna Mingo
birth act:

arrival:
Mingo Marianna ( or Di Mingo Marianna) child Francesco Vitale and child Maria Saveria Vitale, joining at husband Giuseppe Vitale in New York

First Name: Francesco

Last Place of Residence: Leona* (*TEANA)
Date of Arrival: Nov 18, 1904
Age at Arrival: 13y Gender: M Marital Status: S
Ship of Travel: Prinz Adalbert
Port of Departure: Naples
Manifest Line Number: 0029

That's them, Suanj! Thank you!!

These names are new to me, as I am helping my cousin with her husband's tree. They are planning a trip to Italy for their 50th wedding anniversary in the spring and I am trying to nail down places for them. This is marvelous...thanks again!! :)

Funny...I had made a note to come back after work today and ask you "who went to NJ? I thought they went to Staten Island! :) "

Thank you, again! I am about to dive into the records from Teana. I am sure I will be pestering you again later. :)
