Hi,
I'm trying to find my grandfather's birth date. He was born in Brooklyn to Italian immigrant parents and given the name Leonardo Antonio Grippi, which he later anglicized. For most of his life he gave his birth date as July 27, 1919. His father's naturalization record from 1922 gave his birth date as July 12, 1919. And in the 1920 census, enumerated in Jan., his age was listed as 2 years, 2 months old. (The address and family members matches the info on the naturalization record, so it's definitely the same family)
The New York Public library has an index of births records in NYC that extends to 1982 but you have to go to the library in person to search them.

Does anyone know what the index at library says for each person besides name and presumably certificate number? Does it include a birth date or not? Or any other useful information? I'd like to know to what exactly it contains before I plan a trip to New York City to check the index myself.
