Re: Last name of Caranello
Hey T !
Thank you
Still can't find father Angelo Buscio (he picked up Maria Anna at Ellis in 1906)
And, can't find brother Pietro Buscio - whom everyone joined in 1910, and mentioned on Maria Anna's 1906 manifest...
Odd not to be able to find two people on a manifest (or two) between probably 1897 (daughter Pietrina born abt 1898) and 1906
It would be really neat to find the 1915 census, before daughters Angelina and Pietrina were married.
Mother Rosalia LoDato, married name Buscio - can't find her in NY 1915, 1920, or 1925
(in 1930 and 1940 Rosalia's with daughter Pietrina and Pietrina's family)

That would be great!
I think the family probably started in Manhattan and eventually moved to the Bronx
(Maria Anna married 1912 in Manhattan, Angelina married 1919 in the Bronx, Pietrina in 1926 also in the Bronx)

Re: Last name of Caranello
Do we have an approximate DOB for Pietro?
I found a Pietro BUCCAFUSCHI in the 1930 Census living on Crotona Ave., Bronx. NY
What relation (if any) do you think he is to the family? Santi's brother?

No DOB... I don't think the OP knew about him thru her family
He could have traveled to NYC with his father as a youngster?
By 1910 at least 18(?) - he was the one the family was joining.
We actually have no record of him except the mention on the 1910 manifest (living in Manhattan) and possible mention on Maria Anna's 1906 manifest
That's the same street as Santi and Maria Anna, I'm guessing Santi's brother too

Re: Last name of Caranello
Found a POSSIBLE Naturalization Petition for Peter Buscio... born in Partinico
Living in Queens, NY in 1919.
Seems to have served in the Army.
I am currently checking into the birth date (using the baptisms in Partinico)
Unfortunately, the record lists arrival information as "unknown"
Peter Buscio
Name: Peter Buscio
Age: 23
Birth Date: 7 Oct 1895 (lists Partinico)
Arrival Date: 1904
Naturalization Date: 12 Apr 1919
State: New York
Court Type: District Court
Court Location: Eastern District, New York
Naturalization Record Type: Petition for Naturalization
EDITED to add:
Found the baptism for the above Petrus/Pietro/Peter
His parents are listed as Josephus Buscio and Catharina La Spia, married couple.
They are in the 1930 Census on East 71st St. in Manhattan! Isn't that the address Maria was going to?
Maybe Peter was a cousin and not a brother?
I checked all the indexes for Baptisms from 1876-1889 (1884 was missing), and the index for 1894-96.
I did not find another Pietro Buscio.
Interestingly, I found Pietro Buccafuschi in May 1885.
Born to parents Sancto[Santo] Buccafuschi and Josepha{Guseppa] Greco - married couple.
From the age, this could be the Pietro Buccafuschi in the 1930 Census in Bronx, NY.
THEN I found another child born to the same couple in July 1882...Joannes Sancto Buccafuschi. Could have used his middle name?
This age is about right for Maria's husband...Santi Buccafuschi.

Buscio
The Peter Buscio naturalization papers are a possibility - immig 1904 would fit
his WWI Card:
Name: Peter Buscis City: Queens County: Queens State: New York Birthplace: Sicily Birth Date: 7 Oct 1895 Race: White Draft Board: 184
born in Sicily
single, supports father, mother & brother
I'll look at mother, Rosalia LoDato's 1910 manifest and verify whom she was joining
71st Street is the address in Maria Anna Buscio's 1906 manifest for her father Angelo on the detained page: 311 E 71st
Buccafuschi
Santi Buccafuschi and probable brother Pietro were both at 1654 1st Ave NY NY NY in 1918:
Name: Santi Buccafuschi City: Manhattan County: New York State: New York Birth Date: 6 Sep 1883 Race: White Draft Board: 143
Name: Petero Buccafuschi City: Manhattan County: New York State: New York Birth Date: 17 May 1886 Race: White Draft Board: 143

Maybe the Church was their sponsor? Or the address used by the families?
The ED/AD finder at Stephen Morse has no listing for even number 300-400 on 63rd St. in 1915.
The search continues !

Great info!
Checked Apr 1910 census for son Pietro Buscia at 311 E 71st Street (father Angelo's address in 1906)
It is a residence, no Pietro, no one from Italy
on ancestry images 36-38 of 48
District 1064 Borough of Manhattan, Ward 19; New A. D. 18 (pt. of) Tract S 10 (part of) Bounded by: E. 72nd , First Ave., E. 71st, Second Ave
It appears that father Angelo Buschio may have died between the 22 Jun 1906 manifest for Maria Anna and the 2 Sep 1910 manifest (Rosalia is a widow)

Re: Last name of Caranello
Hey Valarie!
Well, I finally found 336 East 63rd St. on the 1910 Census, and unfortunately, there are no BUSCIO listings (or Ignassia). It appears to be an apartment house. All the Heads-of-household are Italian.
Checked all of the names and none appear to be close to Buscio or even a gross misspelling of it. However, I found a John BRUSCHIO at 338 E. 63rd St. with his sister Rachel. John was the brother-in-law to the HOH - Frank Vertullo. That is the closest I was able to come. I've been checking several pages on each side of 336 in the Census.
