Paino surname

Hello...
I am very new at this...started about a year ago but had to put it aside. Now I've really got the search bug and I'm in it for the long haul.

I am searching for info about my grandfather's family. He was James (Giuseppe) Paino b. +-1889 in Malfa. I think I have found his Ellis Island arrival on the ship's manifest and am now tracing him into New York (Brooklyn), etc. That seems to be the easy part!

What I would really love to know is some of the background of where he was born, what Malfa looks like (I am told it's lovely), and perhaps find some family there. Malfa is so very small, though, and it seems to be impossible, at least for a beginner, to find out anything. I think I might need some help. Is there anyone who might be able to steer me in the right direction? I certainly would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Also, the Family History Center has microfilm for the town of Malfa but it's limited. Its from 1847-1910. You can order and rent the microfilm at your nearest Family History Center for about $3.50 a roll depending on your location.

In those films if you decided to order them, you will find the Birth Act of Giuseppe, any siblings he had, the names of his parents, and you might be able to find the Marriage Act of his parents. The list goes on. Anything prior to 1847, you will have to write to the town itself.

Also, please give us some information on your James. Where did he settle in the USA? Who was is wife? Give us the name of some of his children? Maybe we can find some cenus records for you.

I also have ancestors Paino from Malfa. I don't know too much yet, but my gr grandmother was Annunziata Paino. I know she had a sister Catterina, who married a Costantino...here in the Boston area. They also apparently had a sister Maria who married a Bongiorno and emigrated from Malfa to Buenes Aires, Argentina. Their parents were Onofrio Paino and Annunziata DiLorenzo. My gr grandmother married Angelo Russo and they settled in Wakefield, Massachusetts. There may have been a brother Onofrio, too. I am still trying to prove or disprove that. He is not mentioned in my gr grandmother's obituary, but I found him on a ship list arriving in Boston and giving my gr grandfather Angelo Russo of Wakefield as the person he was going to here.
These folks were born in the same time frame as your Guiseppe. Do you know who his parents were? We are most likely somehow related. I haven't had time yet to check out the LDS films for Malfa...it is still on my "to do" list.

By the way...the mysterious possible Onofrio Paino I believe also ended up in Brooklyn. I had once been in contact with a person Angelo Paino who had ancestors from there, too.

My grandfather is Angelo Paino. He came to Brooklyn at the turn of the century. My father, Bart Paino, was born in 1919. My guess is that my grandfather was born in the 1890's. He later moved to Dobbs Ferry, NY and married Grace Stagliano. All I know is that my fathers family came from Sicily. I was never given a specific town.
